Jenrick defends calling Handsworth 'worst-integrated' The shadow justice secretary stands by his comments about the Birmingham area amid sharp criticism.

Dear @robertjenrickmp.bsky.social.

Born & bred in Handsworth.

Represented it for 18 years as a councillor.

Heard you're an expert now.

Next time you're in town, I'd be delighted to give you a personal tour and even introduce you to my mum.

Lots of love, Paulette x

Hello #Hero @mrjamesob.bsky.social My wife and I spent the weekend in Central Birmingham and had the most wonderful time. Loved the diversity of people that we came across. All so friendly and helpful, without fail. What a city it is!!

Reform's plan for a benefit clampdown
Sir, Regarding Reform's plan to ban foreigners from claiming benefits ("Farage visas would make it harder to settle in the UK", news, Sep 22;
"Time's Up", leading article, Sep 23), in my small company for the past ten years we have employed, on a yearly average, 32 eastern European people, two of them in senior management positions. They all pay British taxes and have had little or no unexplained absences to date. Sick leave for them is extremely low. As far as I am aware, none of them is claiming benefits for dependants. These diligent people provide compassionate care for their clients, living with them for a few weeks at a time. During the pandemic they were responsible for ensuring zero transmission of the virus to people in their care. I feel utterly ashamed that many of them will be reading about Nigel Farage's plan on their various social media platforms
this morning.

Our politics and media have become viciously obsessed with immigration. Farage has made sure of it. And in that obsession, they’ve all lost sight of the people they target. Fellow human beings trying to live and belong somewhere.
Shame on everyone responsible for this daily inhumanity

It’s not just the BBC is it? Sky LBC and others give him a free ride whilst other parties, including the Government, struggle to get their messages over. Wonder who pays these broadcasters to provide the platforms?

Actually agreed with something he said!!

In his post today Matt Goodwin is worrying that Reform may be taken over by careerists whose only interest in personal advancement and financial benefit. Surely not.

Like John McDonnell, I am in my 70s, a lifelong Labour voter, and I have been a member of the party for more than 40 years. I would just note that every Labour government in my lifetime, including the great Attlee government, has been accused of betrayal and abandoning principles, mainly by people who claim to be on the left.
I would also note that, despite the criticisms, it is Labour governments that have delivered almost every social advance and economic improvement in the lives of ordinary British voters over those more than seven decades.

I think this is almost certainly true. We now hail Atlee’s government as a beacon of Labour principles but they only served one term?

I always thought one of the things you could say in Baker's defence was that he was steadfast in his principles. Well, I guess everyone's a libertarian until they lose their job.

United Kingdom: Staff Concluding Statement of the 2025 Article IV Mission United Kingdom: Staff Concluding Statement of the 2025 Article IV Mission

In good news for Labour, the IMF issued a report on the UK yesterday, saying "an economic recovery is underway. Growth is projected at 1.2 percent in 2025 and will gain momentum next year" with the "fiscal plans strike a good balance between supporting growth and safeguarding fiscal sustainability."

So the PM is in Albania today. Whatever criticism’s there are of him, and there are some justifiable ones, boy he works hard. From the day he walked into Downing Street, he hasn’t stopped and got on with the job. What a contrast to his recent predecessors! What say you @mrjamesob.bsky.social ?

People in the USA & beyond are being punished, fired, defunded, deported, disciplined & silenced by Trump’s administration for their opinions & beliefs. In unprecedented numbers. I thought the β€˜anti-woke’ warriors really hated this stuff? They all seem to have disappeared…

BlueSky becoming more useful for news basically every day. Simple reason: None of that Elon trash code that punishes direct links. People share stories and we click, like God intended.

On his own social media platform, and without providing any evidence to back up his claims, Elon Musk indicates the skies over America are deeply dangerous for air travelers. And, of course, that his company - quite by chance, you understand - will be filling the breach.

So we can't pay the young son of a Hamas minister to narrate a BBC documentary

But we can put the son of a KGB agent in the House of Lords, paying him to make our laws
