But calculus is always an optional elective, though. Shouldn't the kids who know they want to take calculus in college have the opportunity to start learning it in high school?

High school chemistry and organic chemistry teacher.

27.08.2023 13:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I finished my summer grad course, but now I'm taking a fall grad course. π I have work due today and I'm here procrastinating on it.
27.08.2023 13:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm not sure how to make a thread on this site? Do I just reply to myself?
Anyway, we've had three early dismissals for heat this week, which is not a thing I knew could happen!
Second week of school done! I threw organic straight into content and we've been working on alkane nomenclature this week. They're doing pretty well so far! Next week we'll have fractional distillation of crude oil, and then learn about CFCs. Gen chem starts atomic structure Monday. π₯½
25.08.2023 20:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is so cool, I want to print it in color and hang it in my classroom!!!
23.08.2023 00:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nice! This is a great idea!
22.08.2023 23:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great first day of school! I was super nervous, but having so many awesome kids in class got me hyped up. And the organic kids burst into applause when I walked into class, LOL. I'm so lucky to have great students. :)
16.08.2023 20:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Planned out my first unit for organic and got some doodle notes made. Got everything hauled into my classroom and starting setting it up. Need to go in again this week, make copies, and finish setup. Mostly feeling positive at the moment!
08.08.2023 02:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Chairs are more expensive than tables! I learned that the first time I needed to buy kitchen chairs but not a table. And needing 1 chair per person means you can end up needing a lot of chairs.
07.08.2023 18:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've had inservice days that didn't start until 9am, and it was great! This year the first inservice day starts at 7:45 am. I am distraught.
07.08.2023 18:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I learned so much from this book! I wish there was a resource for implementing it in chemistry.
07.08.2023 17:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0TBH, I'm still salty about all the people who think we're about to replace teachers with ChatGPT. Sure, make the kids sit in front of a program giving them wrong answers all day. Complete isolation doesn't harm childhood development, right?
07.08.2023 16:35 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Awww. It's noon and I'm only now getting up, lol. Mostly because I woke up at 3am for no reason, rambled to my husband about historical fashion for several hours, then went back to sleep. (He's on a different sleep schedule then me, so he's always awake at 3am)
06.08.2023 16:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I really like the remind app! The students tend to like it too because it sends your messages as texts to their phones. You can schedule reminders in advance to make sure you don't forget to send them!
04.08.2023 02:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm trying something new this year! I made a google sites "newsletter" and I'm going to email it out to parents through google classroom. Some of my students have already accepted their google classroom invites and started commenting on the introduction post!
04.08.2023 02:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I didn't know that! And I just googled the Noun Project and it looks awesome. Thank you so much!
03.08.2023 18:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A doodle notes page for Introduction to Organic Chemistry. Words are written in bubble letters and clip art is included to color in.
Tried out using Canva to make doodle notes. I think it turned out nice enough, but it was a huge pain and I had to turn on the free trial for premium to make it workable.
Don't think this is worth paying for, will probably go back to google slides.

This is how I passed pchem. I used to sit outside the professor's office with my homework and ask him questions every time I got stuck. I never passed a single test, but he gave me a passing grade in the class. I'm convinced it was 90% pity.
