I finished my summer grad course, but now I'm taking a fall grad course. 😭 I have work due today and I'm here procrastinating on it.

Second week of school done! I threw organic straight into content and we've been working on alkane nomenclature this week. They're doing pretty well so far! Next week we'll have fractional distillation of crude oil, and then learn about CFCs. Gen chem starts atomic structure Monday. 🥽

Great first day of school! I was super nervous, but having so many awesome kids in class got me hyped up. And the organic kids burst into applause when I walked into class, LOL. I'm so lucky to have great students. :)

Planned out my first unit for organic and got some doodle notes made. Got everything hauled into my classroom and starting setting it up. Need to go in again this week, make copies, and finish setup. Mostly feeling positive at the moment!

Chairs are more expensive than tables! I learned that the first time I needed to buy kitchen chairs but not a table. And needing 1 chair per person means you can end up needing a lot of chairs.

I've had inservice days that didn't start until 9am, and it was great! This year the first inservice day starts at 7:45 am. I am distraught.

I learned so much from this book! I wish there was a resource for implementing it in chemistry.

TBH, I'm still salty about all the people who think we're about to replace teachers with ChatGPT. Sure, make the kids sit in front of a program giving them wrong answers all day. Complete isolation doesn't harm childhood development, right?

Awww. It's noon and I'm only now getting up, lol. Mostly because I woke up at 3am for no reason, rambled to my husband about historical fashion for several hours, then went back to sleep. (He's on a different sleep schedule then me, so he's always awake at 3am)

I really like the remind app! The students tend to like it too because it sends your messages as texts to their phones. You can schedule reminders in advance to make sure you don't forget to send them!

I'm trying something new this year! I made a google sites "newsletter" and I'm going to email it out to parents through google classroom. Some of my students have already accepted their google classroom invites and started commenting on the introduction post!

A doodle notes page for Introduction to Organic Chemistry. Words are written in bubble letters and clip art is included to color in.

Tried out using Canva to make doodle notes. I think it turned out nice enough, but it was a huge pain and I had to turn on the free trial for premium to make it workable.

Don't think this is worth paying for, will probably go back to google slides.

This is how I passed pchem. I used to sit outside the professor's office with my homework and ask him questions every time I got stuck. I never passed a single test, but he gave me a passing grade in the class. I'm convinced it was 90% pity.

Last year they gave us a yellow sharpie to write with and only afterwards realized none of our writing was visible.
