Bitcoin and Ethereum has been and is still used in black markets and for people to get around sanctions. The cryptobros really ruined the image of it thanks to the endless amount of rug pulls from the hundreds of different coins that no one will ever use.

The whole point of why crypto was developed in the first place was as a decentralized currency that didn't rely on a bank or payment processor. It basically works like torrenting, processing spread out across an entire network of computers.
