AI chatbots can persuade voters to change their minds
Conversations with AI can sway peopleโs political views. Concerningly, a chatbotโs facts are not always accurate, especially when it supports right-wing positions.

AI presents a fundamental threat to our ability to use polls to assess public opinion. Bad actors who are able to infiltrate panels can flip close election polls for less than the cost of a Starbucks coffee. Models will also infer and confirm hypotheses in experiments. Current quality checks fail

Political Socialisation in the UK: Describing Generational Changes of Values - International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society
A growing bulk of research examines intergenerational shifts in attitudes and the extent to which they are attributable to new cohorts of voters being socialised under different socioeconomic and cult...
๐จ New paper with Maria Grasso on generational shifts in political values. Despite talk of rising age polarisation, we show that gaps in attitudes are stable or even narrowing. Economic attitudes move in cycles, while social values have become more liberal โ mainly due to generational replacement.

Ukraine may be repeating a costly mistake in Pokrovsk.
Itโs a recurring pattern, seen for example in Vuhledar and Kursk โ a reluctance to conduct a controlled, militarily justified withdrawal from a threatened salient when the situation no longer favors the defender. 1/

Happy to see our study out! Our main takeaway is that while poor voters vote less often, are less ideologically aligned with their preferred party, and see their preferred party less often in government - voting still does not seem to explain unequal representation.
