I started medication for ADHD on the weekend. Turns out my life has had the difficulty level cranked up to full for the past 46 years, and that there is actually something that can help with that.

Autism is one of many diverse naturally occurring neurotypes, and autistic people don't need to be cured, pitied, or to be treated like we're the result of bad decisions that should be prevented.

It's truly wild to hear yourself being discussed as though you're a tragedy.

Ten years ago, I was very focused on vaccine advocacy, and very familiar with anti-vaccine cranks.

Today, I'm watching the PotUS making an announcement about autism, in which he's spouting the exact same anti-vax lies, unchallenged.

How is this bullshit managing to persist?

Feeling pretty strongly inclined to be the embodiment of a horrible horrible autism crisis right now.

It's just... a lot.

I hate that my kids are aware that there are emboldened shitheads out there saying (and doing) hideous things to trans and autistic folk. I hate that they (reasonably) worry about it, even in their own home.

And I can't fathom how much worse it'd be if we lived in the US.

I encourage curation of and critical engagement with the online content they consume, and we have a lot of discussions about self care, stepping back, and where we can go to focus on affirming news and stories.

And heck yeah, I encourage them to unplug and join me in the garden or create some art.

It's absolutely not as simple as telling them to switch off their devices.

They have community online, which is lifesaving. And they're curious folk, who want to know about the state of the world - especially as it pertains to their existence as autistic and trans people.

It's a wild time to be autistic, trans/gender diverse, and online right now.

I'm trying to support my teenagers through a barrage of shitty misinformation and hateful opinions (while processing my own reactions to it all), and oh boy.

I'm stunned to be feeling something akin to warm nostalgia when reading the name VenomFangX, but here we are. Wild times.

I'm having a functional capacity assessment done at the moment, and today the OT had me do a few tasks for her. Truly, I felt like a monkey being observed by a scientist. She was able to accurately surmise how my mind and body work by watching me chop vegetables... it's quite fascinating.

Conversation in my house:

"Remember the bloke from Dubbo who fell down the stairs and waited fucking ages for an ambulance that time?"

"Fuck - yes, I do."

"Well...!"
