Just found out ACMI (one of great cinema places in Melbourne) is doing a season of Stephen King films. Lots of classic King works - some I have never seen before on the big screen!

Agreed - they realised the key to a good King adaptation is not following the book religiously, it’s staying true to the themes & characters.

How the hell am I only now finding out Greg Malouf passed away 10 months ago. He was a master of Middle Eastern food & had a major influence on my cooking. Damn that’s tragic.

Stephen King Adaptions Doing a reread of Stephen King books in chronological order. After each book I’m watching adaptations that have been made of the various books.

They realise that what makes a good adaptation is you need get the themes right, realise we need to care about the characters, especially if it’s just going to be lots of shots of walking and talking & also it doesn’t shy away from the brutality of the walk.

I reread THE LONG WALK before seeing the film & they change a lot of the story (especially the end) but despite all the changes it’s up there with some of the better King adaptations.

This is a great thread. Haven’t got to watch all the videos yet but definitely will. Bambi is my favorite of the Disney animated films (I even have an original production drawing) so being able to learn more about one of the biggest influences on the film is great.

This is a great thread on the artist that influenced the greatest Disney animated film (in my opinion) - Bambi. Without him who knows what it would have become.

Kingdom Hospital (2004)

I’ve sat with this for a week trying to decide what I really thought of this. It is absurd, funny, clever or odd in parts but at times it can not completely work. I’m glad I watched it but probably won’t ever watch it again.

His name is Maliki. He was meant to be full kelpie but he is actually only part kelpie but 100% good boy.

Honestly if you need something to do this weekend you can do a lot worse than reading @talkscaredpod.bsky.social new novella Good Boy. Equal parts creeping dread & beauty.

You can see all the Stephen King influence but still with its own distinct voice. I loved the homage to one of my favorite Oy lines from The Dark Tower.
I genuinely found it one of the most enjoyable recent reads but I am a sucker for a good boy.

Spent the afternoon on the couch with my own goodest boy next to me reading it. As soon as I finished it I had to get up & take him for a walk by myself to meditate on the book.
A beautiful novella that doesn’t over stay its welcome but paradoxically leaves you wishing for more.

Only just found out about this great Aussie film inspired by Rear Window. There’s plenty of other Hitchcock references too from Vertigo & Psycho & more. Aside from that it’s just a great fun movie in its own right. It has a great mix of dread, comedy, & suspense & has a great dog character as well.

Cartoon wombats run a very well staffed vet clinic.

Who knew erasable pens were heat sensitive. My daughter drew me a vet clinic run by her favorite animal- wombats. Took it to my clinic to laminate & put up and the image vanished. Thank god I did a high-res scan beforehand.

Anthony Albanese had not one word of condemnation for the Nazis that attacked Camp Sovereign. Not one word of assurance to the Blak community at all. The difference between a terrorist attack on us and Jews is so noticeable. Australia is a racist place.

I said a similar thing after seeing it. When the credits started I thought we were in for something good but sadly it kept adding plot points that went no where or added nothing.

Main - Dracula by Bram Stoker Ash coated venison, beetroot jus, oat crumble, celeriac puree & black pudding crumb. Venison served with a splatter of beetroot jus to look like blood splatter served with some blood sausage crumb.

Dessert - Journey to the centre of the earth by Jules Verne Chocolate sphere filled with hazelnut cream, coffee sponge, anise meringue, chocolatesoil & dulche de leche with a quenelle of espresso frozen yoghurt. Journey into the centre of the chocolate sphere for a variety of mocha flavors.

Main - Dracula
Ash coated venison served with a splatter of beetroot jus served with some blood sausage crumb & celeriac puree.

Dessert - Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Journey into the centre of chocolate sphere filled with a variety of flavors & textures & a scoop of espresso frozen yoghurt.

Entree - Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Pork, duck & chicken terrine with salad, pickles, relish & sourdough bread. Frankensteins monster was made from the various deceased as too is this terrine.

Fish course - 20,000 leagues under the sea by Jules Verne Tarhana soup, octopus, yoghurt shards & olive crumb. As they travel in the Nautilus with Captain Nemo they encounter the giant sea creature.

Entree - Frankenstein
Pork, duck & chicken terrine with pickles & sourdough bread.
The ‘monster’ was made from various deceased as too was the terrine.

Fish course - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Tarhana soup, octopus, yoghurt shards & olive crumb.
Captain Nemo encounter the giant sea creature.

Dinner party I held based on literary classics. Each place had a booked wrapped with the course it related to and a quote from the book that hinted at the dish or themes of the book. As we reached each course the book was unwrapped & discussed briefly. Yep - I am a nerd!

Cocktail - The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson A smoked green gin & tonic. Made to look a bit like the famous formula that transforms the doctor.

Rereading Frankenstein as I waiit for @realgdt.bsky.social version of it & I was reminded of the time I held a dinner party based on literary classics.

Movie:⭐️⭐️⭐️

Classic tale we’ve seen a million times of the story of an incestuous relationship between a vampiric boy & his mum as they kill to survive. Despite the crazy premise it’s kind of fun enjoying the kooky 90’s vibe. It has a really fun cameo by King that made me chuckle.
