In Pittsburgh! I love this city. So many bridges!! We visited the South Side today. My first time in this area of town. Big fan! Lovely walk along the riverbank park & also got a great dinner at a Chinese soup dumpling place. Good times!! 🥟🥟🥟

I've been coding on the web for over 20yrs. Today's the first time I've actually used PUT😅 & the only reason is bc I'd used GitHub Copilot to write an endpoint for me.

I love LLMs for coding bc they'll actually do things the correct way, as opposed to whatever habit I'd just randomly learned first.

The desire to one day play at Carnegie Hall or at Wembley is why many people pour hours into practicing their music. Same goes for aspiring athletes in sports or startup founders trying to make it big. Yes there's a desire to be good but it is also in service of a larger, actually tangible outcome.

One reason people get jobs & make money is because they have children and are trying to raise their families. The more kids they have, the more money they need. The decision to have a lot of kids is a kind of ambition. The desire to look attractive+be healthy is why many people work out at the gym.

If you're never in need or want of anything, then you'll never seek to change your life. The dark side of a life w/o need or want is it leads to a life w/o ambition which results in a small+narrow life. Nothing wrong w/ that but just be aware up front.

When it comes to sharing though, the thing you share with the world needs to be worthy. A necessary (but not sufficient) proxy of worthiness & quality is time and effort spent on the thing. I'm beginning to think the key to happiness (for me anyway) is to always have a long-haul project I'm cooking.

decades, I've only done work for myself. I've coded all kinds of fun small toy projects & written all kinds of journal entries - all private & never public. And that's all great. But what I'm realizing now as I get older is that I actually enjoy sharing things just as much as I enjoy creating them.

I've been pondering recently: some of my happiest moments I've had in life was when I'd accomplished a personally meaningful project & formally delivered it to a *public* audience. Especially if the project took many weeks or months to finish. The act of formally releasing a thing is cathartic. For

As I get older, my new life motto is the Nike mantra, "JUST DO IT." No more procrastinating. If a task needs to be done, JUST DO IT. Annual taxes, bills, menial tasks. Done is better than perfect. This is definitely a failure mode that's plagued me repeatedly. Tons of alpha in clearing the queue.

Coding w/o LLM code-assist/completion feels so unbearably slow now. The hype train is real! I can build in a single day now what might have previously taken a week, especially if it's working with a new library I hadn't previously used before. My learning is also crazy accelerated now. This is wild.

Really liking the animated show, Pantheon on Netflix & am nearing the end of S2 now. I recommend it! A thought-provoking exploration into the idea of Uploaded Intelligence (uploading a person's brain into the cloud). Specifically, I enjoy how the show represents visual metaphors for intelligence. 🧠💻

I'm a very momentum-driven person. Inertia's my biggest enemy by a country mile. The highest order bit isn't time or energy. When you're inspired, time+energy don't matter. Changed my home battle station setup from two 32" curved Dell S3221QS 4k 60hz to one 27" 4k 144hz Omen + one 17" 4k 120HZ UPerfect. Over the years, I've steadily decreased in display sizes because I found that they blocked too much of my peripheral view, generated too much heat, & felt overbearing.

Fortune favors the bold.

For me there's some psychological thing going on. When I work facing a wall, I feel trapped. And that, I think, subconsciously seeps into me mentally. But when I work w/ my back against the wall facing open space, I just feel more motivated, hopeful, & productive. It's some kinda mental thing. 🤷‍♂️

For years I thought not having kids was "easy mode" & raising kids was "hard mode". And that may be true in some ways. But I'm now beginning to realize —at least for me— I had it backwards. Inserting kids into a system motivates ppl to push themselves harder, make more money, do more w/ their lives.

This was always something I could automate with existing tools, but I'd just never bothered to take the time to learn Puppeteer or CDP properly to do it. But now with LLMs, I can trivially oneshot a quickstart that literally gives me a working sample in minutes. I then just tweak it a bit & voilà!!👌
