This is horrifying. Another attack by the administration on the most vulnerable Americans.

If you're looking for a sense of hope, it was palpable in this conversation.

"When asked what to do now, (Bree's) answer was disarmingly practical: do the boring things that make democracy work, and don’t comply in advance."

There's so much wrong with Hegseth embracing it, anyone who styles themselves the Secretary of War rather than Defense doesn't know a thing about Star Trek.

It's not the cool ships or the tech, it's the people and the values they embrace. It's a 24th century to believe in.

When Trump purged the civil service, he did away with some of the employees who understood the government best: “What’s been lost isn’t just a sense of purpose,” Franklin Foer argues, “but a body of knowledge—a way of making the machinery of the state function.”

This Atlantic article feels like an obituary to a government whose purpose was to serve the American people.

I was one of the fifty former federal workers profiled for the story.
