Yesterday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit blocked more than 1.1 million patients from using their Medicaid insurance at Planned Parenthood health centers. In doing so, the court is putting as many as 200 Planned Parenthood health centers at risk of closure.

While this ruling does not have an immediate impact on your access to care here in New York, we know this case is part of a coordinated attempt to “defund” Planned Parenthood and block access to care for people enrolled in Medicaid.

This bill is a direct attack on our health and freedom, putting nearly 200 health centers at risk of closing, blocking 1.1 million patients from essential care like birth control and cancer screenings, and decimating abortion access.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Medina v. Planned Parenthood of South Atlantic—paving the way for South Carolina to kick Planned Parenthood out of its Medicaid program over its status as an abortion provider.

We proudly stand with other reproductive health care advocacy organizations and urge our representatives in Washington to wake up and recognize that by continuing to move this repeal bill forward, they make our communities more dangerous and violent.

We at PPGNY Action Fund are appalled that elected leaders, who are meant to create security for Americans, have chosen instead to strip away foundations of safety across our country.

Make no mistake--we are seeing an appalling erosion of the rule of law in the United States today. This is also yet another shocking attack on access to reproductive freedom.

Earlier this week, in a jaw-dropping moment, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted to repeal the FACE ACT. This bipartisan legislation passed Congress decades ago and was meant to provide reasonable safeguards for those seeking basic reproductive health care.
