Move Forward with Sheppard

A new motion risks delaying or even shelving the Sheppard Ave E Complete Street indefinitely. Nothing in Bill 212 blocks the City from proceeding with the project. Tell the City we need leadership that stands firm, and not let fear of bullying block our progress.

Like last week when I saw a ped get lightly hit by a driver who didn't stop as he crossed a sidewalk and the ped apologized.

A rotten culture we have built here around cars and trucks.

We invented graduated drivers licenses for teens. They worked. But we leave 80-year-olds to β€œsee how it goes.” Every family suffers on their own. But this is a shared social problem, not a personal one. We need conditional licenses for older drivers. Daylight. Local. Annual medical check-ins.

When bikes lanes were the target, it felt like it was just a Toronto thing.

What’s the threshold to get a ticket from Toronto’s speed camera program? Here’s what the Star has found For the first time, the Star can report the threshold for a ticket when driving over the posted speed limit β€” at least in Toronto and other large municipalities nearby.

The Star (okay, except for β€œThe Fixer”) is busy busting the speed camera myths.

The threshold in Toronto and Brampton is 11 km/h over the posted limit. That’s definitely not a β€œtax grab.”

Shawn Micallef: How Toronto can take a lesson from Van Halen, and learn to sweat the small stuff Anybody who travels this city knows large vehicles are routinely in parks. It’s disrespectful to Torontonians, a scandalous waste of money, and intrusive to those trying to enjoy the outdoor

🀘🏼I wrote about sweating the small stuff. The city parks dept answered city council’s request to look into destructive practices w a shrug. That’s not good enough. Total park reform is needed & needs to be an election platform. If Chow passes on it, someone else surely will. Pls read & share. πŸ™πŸΌπŸ€˜πŸΌ

This backpedaling of bike lanes in Toronto due to Bill 212 is absurd with Sheppard from Bayview to Leslie being the latest casualty! We already had this happen with Marlee, Jones, Logan, Eglinton, Dupont & Danforth (east of Victoria Park)! #shame #BikeTO #TOpoli secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

This "priority removal section" for the bike lane on Bloor W demonstrates that Ford and Sarkaria were never serious about finding parallel secondary routes. Where is the parallel route here? They don't care. www.thestar.com/news/gta/the...

Fed-up residents say Toronto’s best days are behind it. Let’s build a safer, more affordable city When more than half of residents feel less safe today than they did a few years ago, it’s clear that City Hall needs to do better.

Really striking how vague the actual policy ideas are here for a sitting councillor announcing a 2nd mayoral bid: more special constables on TTC, vague DC relief, don’t raise property taxes so much. Think this Bradford for Mayor sequel will need more substance. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

But it seems your solution here has already been implemented all over the city and has failed to prevent drivers from dangerously blocking bike lanes. The bike lanes have been designed with delivery zones. Buildings are designed with loading docks.

Took a read through this new active transportation memo from @buildtoronto.com. While there are some things I agree with such as the need to build bike lanes faster & remove parking spaces, there are some serious problems that must be acknowledged. 🚲🧡 #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #VisionZero (1/5)

Yes, I'm sure they are. But I don't expect driverless cabs to replace personal vehicles though, and full AV personal vehicles won't be marketable if they are as safe as Waymo cars.

01.10.2025 17:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

That's great, but I think we'll start seeing the marketability of safe AVs bump up against the safety improvements.

01.10.2025 17:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

AVs will only be safer if AV-makers program them to be safer. But they won't. They will program them to deliver a desirable driving experience, which will not be slow enough to avoid all collisions or prevent all deaths.

We regularly see Toronto prosecutors toss cases or police fail to submit disclosure where cyclists have been hit by dangerous motorists, resulting in life altering injuries. This is a travesty. An injustice. Fantastic reporting by the Star's @alyshah.bsky.social:
