I was going to suggest he limit his follows to chronically upbeat posters like @connieschultz.bsky.social but realized he already knew that advice.

This is crucial for part time workers. Many states have no protections against short shifts and split shifts. Just because a restaurant only needs someone for an hour doesn't mean they should make someone come in for a one hour shift.

A research group that Ellen belongs to, SCIMaP, was identified by "The Nation" as one of the Public Health Heroes for 2025. The leaders include @asinclair.bsky.social , @joshuasweitz.bsky.social , and @falklab.bsky.social (Emily Falk). I couldn't be more proud.

I was taught it in the 60s at UCSD but not with much enthusiasm. Essentially, they said, "observe how much developing mammals look like fish."

I loaned my dvd to a friend, admittedly conservative but not evangelical. He hated it. Didn't find it funny, moving, or profound. Go figure.

I'm surprised that methane is not discussed more. It stays in the atmosphere for less time than CO2 so if we can curtail emissions we should see faster progress.

2/2 Our ability to reduce carbon emissions is better than the most optimistic projections and medicine has shown giant strides, not only mRNA vaccines but using antibodies to fight cancer that gave Carter years of life. I'm not saying we dented the patriarchy but, absent Trump I'd be optimistic

1/2 One thing that bothers me about our current situation is that in at least two domains we have made great progress. .

This is so important. The trap of "When YOU do this" is very appealing. Only when I recognize that I do this, and will probably keep doing it, do I begin to move on.
