Translation (Fr-Eng) and teaching English for a living. Music (rock/metal), sport (football), history (ignorant dabbling) for fun. Politics if I feel my mood dropping below incandescent & I need a fury booster. Seldom, if ever, actually gruntled.

Small Prophets really is quite decent.

Not entirely a fan of the music, mainly because that kind of style is starting to grate a bit with me, it seems to be everywhere (I concede it fits OK with the content here). But otherwise, very fine.

There's quite a good car museum if you like that kind of thing.

They'll strap you in an old Renault 5 and simulate rolling a car over 360 degrees, which is an experience I've never forgotten. You can have it done twice if you ask nicely πŸ™‚

Sounds like an admission that he got himself shot that time.

Good. The "appeal" of Reform is partly that they aren't the "uniparty" as some of them like to call it. The more ex-uniparty MPs they get, the more that aspect of the appeal should wane.

How absolutely awful for you both πŸ˜€
I look forward to seeing the state of your posts around teatime...

And happy b/d to your dad !

Suspect the idea is to cancel the midterms by provoking violence so Trumpists can use that as an excuse not to hold them.

Which, much as I dislike the idea, makes me think the US might as well get violent now, and get it over with. I don't see this administration going quietly.

What does holding him accountable actually entail, in practice? What enforcement is there? (Assuming there was any willingness to apply it.)

It's definitely in need of repair. Water. Energy. Transport. Healthcare. Brexit. Education.

It's also true that Farage is not the repairman we need.

Fairly predictable that he doesn't want midterms.
Hence I disagree with those advocating non-violent resistance on the grounds it would give an excuse to cancel the midterms.
They're not going to happen.
And sorry but only violence is going to work.
So you guys might as well start now.

Quite so. Hasn't worked out for them at all.
I presumed there must be some categories of people who benefitted from it, but you don't hear anything from them so maybe there literally isn't (apart from a smattering of individuals such as NF). It harmed me immensely.

Including @theguardian.com deciding to illustrate the article with a "small boat", which isn't how most people arrive, although the number that do arrive that way did go up. Surely a queue at an airport would be more appropriate?

Last time a non-league team knocked out the holders was 1909 when Palace (non league then) beat Wolves (about to be non league at this rate!)
(I got that from Opta Joe so I assume it's true)

10.01.2026 14:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think it's relative: if non-league knock out tier 2 clubs, you see the same term used. I think tier 6 beating tier 1 qualifies πŸ™‚

Although yes, more generally, away from descriptors for FA Cup exploits, I'd agree Palace are not a giant.

Yes, I'm a fan of the Slade one as well (saw it live in the early 80s too πŸ™‚) but as the years roll on I'm increasingly fond of Wizzard's classic. And David Essex for reasons I cannot fathom, but I just do. Mae West was new to me!

Oh, tough call. I mean, I agree I've had enough of Last C as well. But if you put a gun to my head and made me listen to one of them.... I suspect I'd listen to Wham. May God preserve my soul for saying so.

So, of the recognised hits (nothing too obscure!), which song tops your xmas chart?

Codified, old chap, it's not codified. It is written, it's just written down all over the place πŸ™‚

But yeah, any constitution not followed and enforced is not worth the, er, paper(s) it's written on.

It's all very well saying things "must be respected" but if there are no consequences, it's all meaningless. You know, maybe actually do something.

It's very much fit for its purpose from where I'm standing, which is why successive governments try to cram it with people who agree with them, so the HoL acts as less of a brake on their power (which is, in case it's not obvious, a key purpose AFAIAC)

28.12.2025 15:48 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

My hazy memory is that the HoL in general, if not the "hereds" specifically, slowed down or blocked some of Johnson's worst legislatory excesses, so I was grateful for it then, while acknowledging it is not ideal. But then, nothing is.

Christian nationalism is just nationalism.
Why not use that "so called" thing we used to do with Islamic state?

What makes you think "under oath" makes the slightest difference? They ignore the law and the constitution. Lying under oath is nothing.

Got paid to take spuds from @sainsburys.bsky.social today. They're 15p for anyone with a Nectar card, plus 50 points in that My Nectar thing worth 25p when I cash them in, means I think they gave me a bag of spuds and 10p. Bet @martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.com would be chuffed with that one πŸ™‚

Daubney's an arse and I'm reasonably sure his conversion is about as genuine as the Hitler diaries BUT this particular line of attack is weak as a key point of real Christianity is redemption of past sins. Damascene conversions and all that. St Paul would stand no chance on modern social mediaπŸ™‚
