Neither the German President nor the Chancellor is directly elected and yet Germany is the most powerful country in Europe.
We strongly agree that the EU needs to step it up.
Yeah I hear that too in France where we elect the President directly so it may feel undemocratic when done otherwise?
I'm all for more democracy. Maybe this can be done by having a true European campaign instead of 27 national ones, giving MEPs the power to propose laws, etc.
Trump is saying he can do whatever he wants as President, implying that because he was elected, he reflects the will of the people.
The President of the Commission has very limited powers indeed but I hope we federate one day. It's true though that we could change the mode of selection then.
Electing directly the President could result in a presidential regime prone to derail like in the US. I prefer a system where Parliament picks the leader, usually the Spitzenkandidat that came on top, like in many European democracies.
24.01.2026 21:59 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We do need a better decision system, the current one is not efficient enough. We could start by removing veto powers, but we can't give too much power to a single individual.

And Europe must be ready to change even faster.
To become more independent. For its own future.

16.01.2026 13:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
