Interestingly, Amari Williams is yet to sign a deal with the Celtics after being drafted in the 2nd round.

And there's the other shoe! Boucher adds some much-needed size across the front court. Positionally versatile, no long-term commitment.
Not a bad pickup
I walk the dog and BOOM a Celtics trade. Gonna need to dive into some RJ Luis Jr. film now. Don't know anything about him to be fair.

Recently, Facebook recommended him to me, which is hilarious. Turns out he's a DIE HARD Birmingham City fan.
Looks like I'm Aston Villa through and through now, then...
He is! But there's a ton of injury concerns there, no?

Here's a sneak peek of what's coming. Full episode about random offense (with a bit of breaking news) drops tomorrow
I'm not sold on the Celtics'Celtics current center rotation, but looking at the free agency market, there aren't any great options.
On why Thomas Bryant may be the "best of the rest" assuming the Celtics don't trade for a new big...

Could look to add some versatility and go with Precious Achiuwa, though -- that could be the play.
I'm not hughe on the current big rotation of Neemy, Garza and Tillman...I'm also not sold Neemy can anchor the starting 5...He was the 4th string big just last season...
Another option would be Bassey, but he's far less proven in a sizeable role, and Summer League success doesn't guarantee it will carry over.
04.08.2025 13:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I probably lean toward Thomas Bryant.
Proven at the NBA level. Has experience as a starter. Career 34.6% 3-point shooter. Rebounds well.
The issue is his defense...He was a -1 in DEPM last season, and has been a negative in DEPM for the past four years.
The free agent market for a center is looking rough...

Last night, I recorded not one, but two pods with my bestest buddy, @btoporek.bsky.social, where we shared our thoughts and/or concerns on a group of teams.
First up, the Eastern Conference!
You should also definitely listen to that.

Since I'm horrible at linking to podcasts, here are two I've recorded over the past week or so.
First up, I had Clippers beat writer @flybyknite.bsky.social on the show to discuss, well, the Clippers funny enough.
Age. Health. The works.
Go listen.

They did I a lot in 23-24. Went pretty far away from it last season - but they did play more of a concept system, so that tracks

Who should start for the Celtics next season?
Should Simons or Pritchard partner Derrick White?
Should Queta or Garza be the primary big?
What about Sam Hauser?
Should Brown spend time at the 2?
We dove into it ALL on today's Taylor Talks Celtics

That's fair. I can't argue there. He has proven to be a good screener, and makes decent reads on when to slip, etc.
Hopefully he can flash some short roll passing next season, that would be huge
I'm not holding out much hope of him proving he's a starting-caliber big man.
If he is the starting 5, it's out of a lack of better options, not because that's a role he should have been playing...
Imo, Queta is a solid back-up. His defense is too questionable to rely on him as a starter, he bites too much, is limited positonally, and struggles when up-to-touch.
His screening numbers are inflated on a per 36 due to the minimal role he played. He was the 4th best center last season.
1.
The difference is here, you're extrapolating a lot for Q compred to the others on this list. He also won't be screenig for JT or Jrue this season.
I'm not expecting big things from him
He's a ridiculously good screener, though -- doesn't make much of a difference, but in terms of the overall question, he is the best on the roster.
Hard truth is, if you're relying on Queta as anything other than a depth piece, your front court is cooked
Probably Tillman as @hardbap.bsky.social said. I'm not sure about Garza, but the hope is that there's something there in terms of screening, moving and decision making
27.07.2025 13:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I could see this becoming a staple of the Celtics offense next season, especially if running Brown as the initial screener (Lofton's role)Β

Sir, it's 9 am here. My coffee is just kicking in, and I, too, am now writing.
Let's crush it
On Saturday, JD Davison signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets.
He will now fight for a spot in Ime Udoka's rotation.
Houston should be a better fit for JD. His style of play suits Udoka's system, and the Rockets don't have the same level of guard depth.
Good landing spot for him...
Well that would depend on the returnβ¦but if you can keep him off the bench, then imo thatβs the best move
