New research reveals the Flagstones site, half of which is underneath Max Gate, is the earliest known large circular enclosure in Britain!

A team from the University of Exeter and Historic England used radiocarbon and archaeological dating to discover that it dates back to 3200 BC.

In the centre of the road, just below the centre of the photo, is a rectangular manhole cover, which marks the approximate location of the finds made in February 1935.

Some #UrbanPrehistory for #TombTuesday. The manhole in the middle of this road in Swindon marks the approx location at which a group of four Middle Bronze Age urns, two containing cremations, and 3 small 'accessory vessels', were found in February 1935 during the digging of a sewage trench. (1/4)
