If you’re in the Baltimore area, and need to cut food costs, there’s a program run by Catholic Charities called Share Food. It’s basically a bulk buying & volunteer packing community that gets you a 50% discount on groceries. I used the Denver version for years, and never saw any proselytizing.

Transcribed Text: Feline_Tales My cats have this meow that means “please come with me to fix this” after which they’ll lead me to the problem in question, usually a empty (or ‘empty’) food bowl or a closed door they want open. They look at the ‘problem’, they look back at me, clear message. What fascinates me is how this illustrates what they percieve as being in the realm of my ‘power.’ I control the food, I control the door, sure, but my cats love to sit on the balcony in the sun, and it has happened plenty of times that on a rainy day they come get me, go to the balcony and show me... the rain. “Please fix this” they say. “Please get rid of the wet” “Silly kitty,” I say, “I can’t control the rain.” I then walk into the shower and turn on the rain. purrfect_logic I hope this is a universal cat owner experience. Every single night he begs me to turn the sun back on so he can watch birds on the balcony. I tell him no, I cannot do that. But I can turn lights on and off in the house and he’s fairly certain I’m just not applying myself properly here.

The USVI are actually pretty decent on protections for trans people from what I understand and the Governor has been pushing for this for a bit. I hope that with time they get rid of the gatekeeping!

From the "celebrate every bit of good news" department: people in the US Virgin Islands can now update the gender marker on their ID (the first Us territory to allow it). Too much medical and legal gatekeeping for it to be a *great* policy, but it's a start!

The getting mad about people buying healthy, lean protein with SNAP is just the ultimate moving goalpost. The same people got mad about people using SNAP for foods they consider “junk food” but when you buy one of the healthiest foods there is it’s too fancy.

Years ago when I was on SNAP (we called it Link) I would tutor my hairdresser's son in exchange for getting my hair done. I got my teeth cleaned at a student clinic for $10 IIRC and my nails done by a friend in the cosmetology program who always needed people to practice on. Community 101
