It's an extremely great story you should read it right now! And nominate it!

I didnโ€™t make an eligibility post this year, because I am out of spoons and all kitchen utensils, but Hugo noms are open, and if you consider anything from me, Iโ€™d love it if you considered my @fantasymagazine.bsky.social story โ€œIchthyosis," that involves the sea, a queer throuple, and a fish.

This is excellent news, and Samit is an excellent teacher/guide. His support has been invaluable to my own work and I highly recommend signing up if you write speculative fiction, want to finish a novel, and would benefit from a teacher and a community.

I can't begin to articulate the safety, comfort and care I feel with my partner. Especially after a long history of CPTSD and an unsafe idea of 'home' (a place I had to constantly escape) and more recently as an immigrant. Life-changing love.

Resisting the Hivemind: Pluribus, Generative AI, and Empire - Reactor While its creator tell us that Pluribus is not about advent of generative AI, it's difficult not to spot the many places where the fledgling tech and extraterrestrial hivemind overlap.

I found the ep in PLURIBUS where Carol--white, American--meets 5 non-white, non-American survivors of the hivemind off-putting, but in a way that made me curious to see where Gilligan was going. Now that I have, I wrote about how empire, privilege, genAI, & resistance converge in the show's subtext:

Why Bother? The "Is Anyone Listening" Edition. Essay on writing for a small audience. When art is created in a forest, and no one tells you they like it, does it matter? What happened when I ran into someone who directed a play I saw years ago. Also a weird chicken story.

My latest newsletter post! You have to read it to see why the chicken picture makes sense.

Keep Hope Alive: a Gaza Giving Circle We are a team of volunteers in the US and UK, led by two sisters passionate about helping our friends on the ground keep their families and neighbors alive with food, water, & shelter. We saw thatโ€ฆ

What's one way you lose spare change per week? Can you turn that into a pledge for the survival of six families & a camp in Gaza?

About 200 folks have made this pledge and it means a little bit of reliable, weekly support. But it isn't enough. So join in: chuffed.org/project/hope...

Saleem Kidwai was a renowned historian and translator, an editor, and a queer elder. He was also a close friend of legendary singer Begum Akhtar. This Sunday I will have the great pleasure of talking about them for the curtain-raiser of this year's Sanatkada Festival in Kolkata:

I read THE POISON PALACE while travelling in Italy, finding rare moments to commune with deep time amid the hills and castles, and the book unfolded settings and eras I've rarely seen in fiction with a graceful, fiery verisimilitude both intimate and mythic. It resounds in time.
