I don't understand โ why does Tasmania have to build a stadium to host an AFL team? They already host footy games there, why not just upgrade those stadiums at minimal cost and community impact?

22.09.2025 08:29 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's the same for bike infrastructure!
We built a brand new high-quality path with no connections โ our surveys show no-one is using it โ there's no point in building bike paths โ nobody rides bikes due to a lack of paths
Can't wait for the obligatory 'more than 11 senior local residents voiced their CRITICAL opposition to the DESTRUCTIVE and WOKE TRAIN STATION' from the Daily Mail
24.08.2025 13:30 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Newsom gives off really sketchy vibes to me but I think there does need to be a Democratic version of Trump (rhetoric-wise lol not in any other way)

And 61km/h sustained winds makes it just about gale-force haha

The weather in Perth is a bit dicey right now ๐ฌ
13.08.2025 11:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0And then what happens? Without negotiation and a deal with the Greens, Labor has no realistic chance of being a viable government. Labor has its chance now, to negotiate and form government, but soon enough the Liberals will have the independents on side and the chance of a Labor government is gone.
06.08.2025 09:31 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I reckon something like 25% of people hate traffic cameras, another 15% just kinda don't like them, and the vast majority of everyone else is pretty neutral.
Although, EVERYBODY hates traffic cameras when you get pinged by one haha
I'm still very impressed by New Zealand's model, it keeps all the benefits of having single-member electorates while being explicitly designed to be almost perfectly proportional.
05.08.2025 09:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes, the 'winner's bonus' effect. The preferential system does help to mitigate certain issues with the majoritarian system โ such as making third parties viable โ but ultimately all single-member electorate systems have structural flaws.
05.08.2025 09:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It is worth remembering that Labor is a party with strong โ and enforced โ party solidarity. It is entirely possible that Penny Wong has been advocating for action on Palestine at caucus meetings behind closed doors for years, but the political tide has finally shifted in her direction.
05.08.2025 09:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0With plenty of parks and good public transport too. Actually, maybe they should take away the casino carpark and turn that into apartments. The industrial areas near Oats Street and Cannington stations also seem like low-cost, high-value development potential.
04.08.2025 13:51 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Instead what they should (but won't) do is intensify the housing density closer to the city. Take out the detached '80s houses โ few will miss them โ and create European-style mid-rise apartment blocks with tree-lined streets.
04.08.2025 13:49 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The profile pic and erratic nature of the reposting makes me think this is a poorly-built bot lol
04.08.2025 13:45 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0As someone who is completely unfamiliar with Auckland's rail, the most confusing parts are the loop as you mentioned, but also I can't make heads or tails of how the on-peak/off-peak sections are meant to work
04.08.2025 13:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That way, it would appease both the people who (I think legitimately) don't want to see kids accessing inappropriate content online, while also addressing the concerns of privacy implications of having to verify age on many websites.
Or am I completely stupid and this is not implementable lol
I was wondering if there were any way to make providing ID to access websites more private.
Does anyone more techy than me know, would it be possible to create ID local to the device? Show your device your ID then it communicates with the website saying 'yep OK'.
In fact it will probably be in my YouTube feed by tomorrow morning and feature some guy on a cliff zoomed all the way in, whooping and cheering while his friend catches some crazy tsunami surf lol (and have like 60 views)
30.07.2025 06:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I would be shocked if there wasn't at least one guy in Hawaii paddling out to ride the tsunami because it's 6 feet, perfect wave height for surfing
30.07.2025 05:59 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0what's your objection lol, I said that Apple's systems already include AI and pointed out how it has a different approach
28.07.2025 04:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Apple does already include AI but it might be the best implementation of AI. They prioritise on-device, low-energy models, which means that AI is handled entirely on your phone instead of handing it off to a power- and water-greedy data centre
25.07.2025 13:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Apple is overall one of the better companies for privacy. They have explicit long-term privacy goals, and with recent software versions have been implementing a variety of measures which give users more control over their data. I fear you are reading into a conspiracy here that simply doesn't exist!
25.07.2025 13:53 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think they should prioritise criminalising and institutionalising child rapists but then the Trump team would be running pretty short on leaders

16.07.2025 09:04 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I don't know... what sounds more appealing to me is spending a decade arguing about the specific details of a single route (or whether we should even build it) while breaking no ground...
12.07.2025 05:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A map of train services in the Perth metropolitan area; shows all lines in addition to water with a depth quality. It also includes a change where lines are branded with a letter for better access. Lines have also been combined (see below), without making any modifications to the actual infrastructure. A = Airport, B = Armadale, C = Mandurah-Yanchep, E = Ellenbrook, F = Fremantle-Midland, T = Thornlie-Cockburn, W = Whitfords-Cockburn.
It's been a busy few days for me :)
I want to present: The first iteration of my improved train services map for Perth! As inspired by cphtransitmap.dk, the concept aims to simplify and beautify the Transperth map. I may make further versions for legibility, accessibility, and additional features.
An email from Transperth: Hi Cameron, Thank you for contacting Transperth regarding the availability of GTFS Realtime data. Unfortunately, the Public Transport Authority (PTA) does not currently offer real-time data access to any third-party applications for publication purposes. We do make our spatial data available to download in the form of a GTFS Static feed, however I understand that you are after real-time data which we are unable to provide at this time. While the PTAโs current priority is to provide accurate and up-to-date information directly through its own services (Transperth app), so that our customers have the best access to the information they require, the PTA recognises the importance of the real-time data to other parties and is currently working towards allowing this data to be used by selected authorised third parties, such as Google Maps, in the near future. I hope the above has provided additional information and we thank you again for contacting Transperth. Kind regards, Transperth
If you take public transport in Perth and have ever wondered why we, unlike many other cities, don't have live service tracking in third-party apps: I wrote to Transperth and got this reply back. Unfortunate, because I would love to use other apps to fully replace the Transperth app.

I went over there to check out Metronet's progress because that seems to be their primary mode of communication, and made the mistake of looking in the comments. Do all the commenters share a single braincell?! Made me sad for society.
