Vladimir Guerrero Jr.โs home runs have been magical.
And his Grand Slam was majestic.
But that hustle home, launching himself to the plate, tells you everything you need to know about how badly he wants this. Outstanding.

Parents, children rally against Ford's planned speed cam ban | CBC News
Concerned parents gathered with their children by a speed camera near Bloor and Dundas streets Saturday afternoon to protest a plan from Premier Doug Fordโs government to end automated speed enforceme...
When bikes lanes were the target, it felt like it was just a Toronto thing.
This, this is against the whole province! Stand up. Fight!
โDespite studies, municipal data and police testimony, Ford has said speed cameras don't make roads safer, calling them a "cash grab" โ www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"If Ford goes through with his ban, the city should keep some cameras rolling (but not issue tickets) to see if the number of speeding cars zooms back up. I suspect those numbers would prove that, despite the premierโs enthusiasm, road safety is not a problem that can be solved with flashing lights"

Shawn Micallef: How Toronto can take a lesson from Van Halen, and learn to sweat the small stuff
Anybody who travels this city knows large vehicles are routinely in parks. Itโs disrespectful to Torontonians, a scandalous waste of money, and intrusive to those trying to enjoy the outdoor
๐ค๐ผI wrote about sweating the small stuff. The city parks dept answered city councilโs request to look into destructive practices w a shrug. Thatโs not good enough. Total park reform is needed & needs to be an election platform. If Chow passes on it, someone else surely will. Pls read & share. ๐๐ผ๐ค๐ผ

Itโs not everyday that a documentary debuts in Collingwood.
โThinking Beyond the Market: a film about genuinely affordable housingโ by @briandoucet.bsky.social.
Donโt miss it, if it screens near you. Itโs very well done, highlighting efforts to decommodify housing from across Canada.

Close win by the Tigers.
But I found it crazy that there were quite a few empty seats in Cleveland this afternoon. Itโs not a โbig marketโ but there are millions of people in the region.
My Toronto brain canโt compute that (&canโt imagine post season Jays being anything but completely full house)

The Wave of Transit โFiscal Cliffs,โ Explained
Covid and inflation played a role. But for many agencies, the crisis goes much deeper.
Across the US, transit agencies are staring down huge 'fiscal cliffs.' The popular explanation is Covid and inflation.
But experts say there are other, longer-term forces in play, from declining gas tax revenues to 'Baumol's cost disease.'

Stockton and Darlington Railway 200: Locomotion No 1 replica anniversary starts trip
A replica of the Locomotion No 1 is recreating the journey made by the real engine 200 years ago.
200 years ago today, September 27 1825, the first train hauled by a steam locomotive ran on the Stockton & Darlington Railway in the UK.
Railways had developed since ancient times, but the S&D was the first public railway to use steam locomotives.

One of my earliest memories was driving out St Clair to my grandmother's place in Etobicoke past the old Stock Yards. I remember the train tracks, the stock yard pens, the old buildings and the smell.
That drive took us past Wychwood were old PCCs were kept, but that's another story for another day!
