This is a case of two things being true: raising children with high support needs can be indescribably challenging, especially with limited resources. Also, that does not in any way justify murder. 4/4

What people are saying is that none of these reasons should be used to justify or soften the severity of filicide.

And, yes, I have absolutely seen that happen. People have called the murders an act of "love" and "care", even calling the parents "courageous" for this. 3/

But this is carers projecting their own baggage onto the scenario. Nobody is suggesting that carers can't experience extraordinary difficulty, especially when support systems are non-existent or fail. Nobody is saying they don't have a right to feel distress, or any other emotions... 2/

I have been seeing a lot more discourse re: Leon and Otis Clune's murder and I've noticed a pattern.

Many parents and carers of disabled people are interpreting comments rightfully pointing out that extreme psychological distress is not a justification for filicide as denial of their experiences.1/

I have seen several people now state that the parents of Leon and Otis Clune were justified in killing their children because children in care are more likely to be sexually abused.

Somehow they managed to mock the inherent right to life of both disabled people *and* survivors of sexual violence.

Omg I heard about this in a Behind the Bastards episode.

Still seeing this, and am especially disgusted when it’s from groups and pages that are ostensibly advocating for disability rights.
