How does the voting work for you??

Details matter enormously. Portland has a history of adopting funky bespoke taxes to fund things like arts and universal preschool. All good ideas, but they are so poorly designed you have to go to an additional website to pay it and it drives people nuts.

I have simple questions like “how would voting work? A website? A postcard in the mail? Can I propose funding parks maintenance?”

Have had this conversation 3x now. Nobody knows.

There is current signature gathering in PDX for participatory budgeting. I want to love it but their pitch is so weak it hurts me.

You have to put it in the highest trafficked area of your house, like the kitchen, so you can absorb the info subconsciously as you walk past it 10x a day.

I started using it during Covid and am hooked now! If I’m travelling for >2 weeks I either take it with me or take a photo of the upcoming month in case more plans come up. 🤣🤣🤣

I think the fault is I don’t RSVP until I check my wall calendar at home and see if I’m actually free. Then I have to search for the invite in my email? Text? Not from the friend themselves but a random phone number or website. 🤮

I know I’m getting old because my friends are all now using 3rd party websites to send out party invites, and I am cranky about it. It’s impossible to find in your messages later. Be old fashioned and just text me your canva flyer!
