Coming soon.
10.08.2025 17:46 β π 39 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Yes thatβs it - would love to see more direct action on this!
10.08.2025 23:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Out doorknocking on this miserably muggy day to help out @mollycoleman.bsky.social for city council! STP friends if you live in Ward 4 please vote for Molly this Tuesday, August 12. She is the strongest climate champion and the only candidate who supports the protected bike lane on Summit Avenue!
10.08.2025 21:16 β π 16 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0It would be great to have more people assert their right to walk there. I would call it civil disobedience but itβs not disobeying anything, you are allowed to be there! Civilβ¦ action, I guess?
10.08.2025 16:06 β π 24 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I loved this @WedgeLIVE podcast about reclaiming public land around Cedar Lake. Iβm disappointed the park board chose not to put a walk path there; they really should!

I realize broad science-literacy problems cannot generally be solved just by shoving more facts at people but I really wish more people understood that the entire purpose and mechanism of a vaccine is to educate your OWN immune system, making it about the most "natural" medical intervention possible

CA Dems should pass an amendment permitting partisan gerrymandering that explicitly has a kill switch triggered to passing a national ban on the practice (and having that ban upheld by the courts).
04.08.2025 00:43 β π 95 π 20 π¬ 4 π 0This declaration enshrines a new rule for the entire judiciary: No longer can lower courts apply the law as it stands today; they must try to anticipate where the law will stand tomorrow, and align their rulings with that prophecy. Rather than enforcing precedent, these courts must scrutinize SCOTUS's shadow docket decisions for any hint of where the conservative supermajority will take the law next, and try to get there first. This new command is fundamentally unworkable, and not just because judges have no special ability to predict the future. The deeper problem, as Justice Elena Kagan noted in her dissent on Wednesday, is that the court frequently does not explain its shadow decisions at all. More and more, the majority simply halts an injunction against the Trump administration without offering a word of explanation.
The Supreme Courtβs Republican-appointed supermajority now demands that lower court judges ignore binding precedent and read the justicesβ minds instead.

This is the best discussion on transit funding I have ever read. All MSP urbanists who have followed the βhow can we improve Met Councilβ debate should read this.
01.08.2025 01:53 β π 44 π 7 π¬ 0 π 0Bike theft is a major issue right now.
I used to shrug it off bc the only bike theft Iβd experienced before this year was an unlocked bike taken from our yard 10+ years ago.
Whatβs happening in Mpls right now is next level, w/ break ins to locked garages, secure apartment storage areas, etc.

20.07.2025 01:24 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Awesome thread here about the importance and opportunity to reduce driving trips to and in our park spaces.
Overall, less driving = more and cleaner green space.
I sure hope everyone running will commit to get MPRB up to this critical work! Thank you for this @chrisjohnmeyer.bsky.social
19.07.2025 00:54 β π 8 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0If you support this, you can help by asking park board candidates to support a VMT reduction target! I am also going to try to submit a question about it for the Q&A session for the DFL convention tomorrow
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I think adopting a VMT reduction target would help nudge commissioners & staff toward a bigger picture mindset. Rather than considering decisions about every parking lot, curbcut, bus stop, & bike lane in isolation, we should think bigger about our cumulative climate obligations
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0There are many ways MPRB could make progress toward that target. The original staff-recommended plan for Minnehaha Pkwy (which was sadly defeated) is a great example. Restoring the parkway gate pilot that I got passed for W. River Pkwy (but the current board repealed) is another
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Third, and most importantly, MPRB owns a lot of roads and parking lots! They should measure the current VMT on parkways, and work to reduce the VMT on them by 40% by 2050, with incremental targets in between.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 17 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Second, MPRB could run initiatives to encourage park users to bike/walk/bus to get there rather than driving. They could run public education campaigns, have classes that teach people how to bike, and provide free transit passes for activities that are run directly through MPRB.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0There are three big ways MPRB could help. First, it could adopt incentives for its employees to bike/walk/bus to work, such as free transit passes, or cash-in-lieu payments when employees don't take up free parking.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 12 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis have adopted their own VMT reduction targets, and have actively worked to achieve them through road diets, protected bike lanes, Bus Rapid Transit lines, pedestrian improvements, and other initiatives.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The state government has made substantial progress toward this goal by majorly expanding public transit funding through the 0.75% metro sales tax, and by requiring climate impact to be taken into account for highway expansions.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To reach that statewide target, places like Minneapolis will need reductions a lot higher than 20% to make up for parts of the state that will have a much harder time transitioning, so the goal for us should be around 40%.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Transportation is the biggest source of carbon pollution in Minnesota, so state leaders have enacted a target of reducing VMT per capita by 20% by 2050.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Something I'd like to ask of all the Minneapolis Park Board candidates is for them to support a VMT (Vehicle Miles Traveled) reduction target. Minnesota, Hennepin County, and the City of Minneapolis all have strong VMT targets, but up to now MPRB has done almost nothing to help.
19.07.2025 00:51 β π 62 π 10 π¬ 2 π 5Dan has been actively involved in our parks for years through his role on the Above the Falls Citizen Advisory Committee (AFCAC), and I know he will work tirelessly to expand our park land along the riverfront and to connect the Missing Link of the Grand Rounds. β
19.07.2025 00:28 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Dan recognizes that itβs critical for MPRB to do its part to achieve our cityβs climate action goals, especially when it comes to reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) and supporting better infrastructure for public transit, biking, and walking.
19.07.2025 00:28 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Former MPRB D 1 commissioner Chris Meyer endorsement means so so much- Chris is incredibly passionate and a wealth of knowledge- βIβm supporting Dan Engelhart because I know he will be a climate champion on the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.-thread -
19.07.2025 00:26 β π 25 π 7 π¬ 1 π 0What transit experts generally tell you is: the highest use of scarce resources is making transit service more *frequent & reliable*. That's what actually boosts ridership.
Everything else -- free point-of-use fare, electric buses, fancy new trolleys, architecturally fancy stations -- matters less.
It took heroic efforts to get HB 5002 through the CT legislature. CT has some of the most expensive suburbs & most restrictive zoning in the US - 2+ acre minimum lot sizes near excellent transit infrastructure & job access. Deeply frustrating to see Gov. Lamont's veto.
