Fair enough. I've gotten to the point where I don't even trust my own memory. Like, it sounds like something he would say, but there is so much misinformation out there, and it seems to be getting worse.

You know what? I didn't remember him saying it, so I looked it up, and I can't find any reference to trump referring to bread lines last year. I found quotes from musk and a few republican surrogates, but I think the idea of bread lines was beyond trump's vocabulary.

Choosing not to eat animals isn't hard, but avoiding animal products can be difficult given that there are animal parts in products you wouldn't expect (US McDonald's French fries, bone char filters for refined sugar .... or ordering a vegan pizza and having the cook sneak parmesan cheese into it)

Yeah .... I've spent the last few days reading egg studies.

I don't think the scientists were fudging the data back in the 80s. My best guess is that they weren't taking into account what was generally eaten with the eggs. Since we now know saturated fats raise ldl, not dietary cholesterol.

Yeah, it's hard to know the truth ... like I was just reading an article about how eggs can help prevent alzheimers .... paid for by an egg lobby. They weren't wrong (eggs contain choline, which can help protect your brain), but there are healthier sources (which wasn't mentioned in the study)

Scientific literacy thread:

Don't trust the mainstream news on scientific studies, especially health studies. They tend to report on single sensational studies (Vaccines cause autism!), and don't understand (or perhaps care -> fear = $$) about the greater body of data.

You should also watch out for experts creating doubt about research that hurts moneyed interests ... i.e. tobacco companies paid "experts" to undermine the science. Oscar Myer hired the same PR firm to downplay the link between hotdogs and leukemia.... and the fossil fuel giants are experts at it

I served the same dish with and without 'vegan' labels for 30 days. The reactions exposed our deepest food biases Carlos scarfed down three mushroom quesadillas and came back the next day for more. Then I put up a 'vegan' label and suddenly he needed 'real' food.
