Local Peregrines now getting vocal.
04.02.2026 11:07 β π 20 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Cracking photo of a very difficult bird to snap. I saw Blue Pitta as well as Eared, Mangrove and Gurney's on my only trip to Thailand....would love to go back.
02.02.2026 20:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Such a small fine acts as no deterrent at all !
29.01.2026 19:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes both sets of parents. Boxes are dual sectioned, so the owls and kestrels are separate from each other.
01.07.2025 04:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The boxes are dual chambered so separated from each other. Kestrels nesting in the 'roof' section, above the Barn Owls in the main part of the box
01.07.2025 04:33 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Its the poorest year for owls thus year due to lack of food, and I have ringed only a hundred of each of Barn Owls and Kestrels. So a big surprise on the Humber Bank this week to find 6 Barn Owl and 4 Kestrel chicks in the same nestbox ...and with uneaten prey items too!
26.06.2025 07:43 β π 44 π 4 π¬ 3 π 1All three Peregrine chicks have now fledged at St Wulframs Church, Grantham.
21.06.2025 07:41 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The first Lincs record was in Lincoln.....1986 at North Hykeham - remember it well.
13.05.2025 18:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Checking our Little Owl boxes today and was surprised to find 7 eggs, as it's a very poor breeding year,....then found there were two females in the box (photo shows both with brood patches) Polygyny is very rare in Little Owls.
12.05.2025 16:33 β π 15 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0One for you @djrlincsbirder.bsky.social
11.05.2025 08:07 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0These Raven chicks in south Lincolnshire today were nearly 80 metres up a communications tower !
15.04.2025 13:28 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Earliest ever Willow Warbler for me in my Sleaford gardem this morning @lincsbirding.bsky.social
31.03.2025 10:12 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1I come across them every few years or so. Last year we came across some chicks with intergrade features, only a few miles from this sighting, so makes you wonder if this bird was around last year, and has bred locally?
13.03.2025 18:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nice change of scenery today in neighbouring Yorkshire... we dont get Red Grouse in Lincolnshire.
10.03.2025 18:25 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hedge accentor!
03.02.2025 14:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Bit warmer a year ago today in the Gambia, whilst getting these photos of Blue-cheeked and Little Bee-eaters.
18.01.2025 17:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good start to 2025 with a Water Rail ringed at Marston STW... the 18th of this autumn/winter.
02.01.2025 13:30 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Unexpected Firecrest caught and ringed at Dunsby this morning
29.12.2024 16:30 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just received details of one of our Siskins, ringed at Bourne Wood in April, thst was caught in the Russian Federation just 9 days later.
28.11.2024 21:21 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The 16th Water Rail ringed at Marston STW this autumn. Only around a hundred are ringed annually in the UK.
22.11.2024 15:07 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It has been a record autumn for ringing Water Rails (13) and Moorhen (18) at Marston whilst targetting Moorhen for the colour-ringing scheme. Grey Wagtail this morning also.
15.11.2024 12:00 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know it's mild, but was not expecting to see our male Peregrine nest "scraping" this afternoon at Grantham.
30.10.2024 17:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thought I would just play mp3 of Bearded Tit at Marston on the off chance of one passing through! Very rare here, only a couple of records on 30 years. Will buy a lottery ticket for today!
29.10.2024 10:17 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The drake Mandarin on the river Slea, in Sleaford, is in excellent plumage now.
22.10.2024 15:29 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 034 Years ago today.... Lincolnshire's 3rd ever Olive-backed Pipit caught and ringed at Seacroft Golf Course.

11.10.2024 15:20 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nice morning bird ringing at Marston STW. Meadow Pipits starting to move through, 2 Cetti's Warblers and Water Rail ringed among the commoner Sedge and Reed Warblers and Chiffchaffs.
16.09.2024 16:27 β π 12 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Two years ago today, this juv. Red-backed Shrike was ringed at Marston STW, Lincolnshire. It was the only one ringed in England in 2022, with two others in the UK (Fair Isle and Shetland). A real surprise find inland.
