Soviet SU-18 self propelled gun. It never went into production, top heavy, narrow gauge and only held 4 shells.

Prototype roll out day, 10th October 1930, the ever-present commisars are not happy.

Kit by HobbyBoss 1/35. Loved making this little one.

Just a few lines and suddenly it looks like a locomotive.

First decal applied.
There are a lot of thin long decals, oh that is going to be fun (not).

I have a very bad feeling about this...

I still need to do black on the tender.

It's going to look like the current Britannia 70000 (It still exists in real life as a heritage steam locomotive) which is slightly different the 1960s model.

Only just realised that two 'wind shields' or windows are broken off of the tender!
On the real thing I think this was to offer protection from wind and rain to the crew when they were reversing the train.
Not sure how practical it is to repair 🤔

That's the BR Green done and I think the coal is perfect!
Next stage is to mask up ready for the black.

The tender coal insert is complete.
What I haven't decided yet is whether to weather (😆 ) the Britannia including this coal insert.
Originally the coal insert was just a piece of textured black plastic.

Also I think by the time I have finished, I will have used a whole can of the BR Green on this one locomotive.
A lot of the spray hasn't gone on the model and it doesn't cover very well.

Not a fan of Railmatch aerosol can paints.
The spray output is uneven (at least for the BR Green can I have) and the nozzle clogs easily.
They do airbrush ready versions, but I haven't used enamels in my airbrush, so was reluctant to go down that route.

Will have to see what the results are like

As you know I paint freehands on cloaks of my miniatures from time to time, and I started doing that many years ago. This is for example a freehand that I painted on the cloak of Torquemada Coteaz back in 2015 so quite a while ago 🙂 #warhammer #warhammercommunity #warhammer40000 #acrylicpainting

Made the tender coal insert.
I used a two part Araldite type of adhesive to bond the 'ballast' pieces to the plastic sheet. Then brushed some slightly diluted PVA glue over the top. Just needs painting now.
Second coat of BR green applied. I'll do a third tomorrow.

It takes a long time to be touch dry, about 3 hours, for some reason the black is quicker, about 1 hour.
Also working out how to make a coal insert for the tender.
I think a sheet of plastic with ballast rocks glued to it and painted black should work.

ended up stuffing a bit of wire down the nozzle, which seems to have cleared the paint clog.

Haven't tried it on the loco yet.

Feckin sods laws!
Started applying the green BR paint and the spray can nozzle got clogged!
The nozzle is currently bathing in a bath of white spirit.
Hope I can clear it.

It's a shame that the USA has decided to leave the free world and Western democracy.

The Britannia and tender bodies are primed.
The smoke deflectors and smoke box door have been primed and painted black.

Super fast catch up to call the Bronco Loyd Carrier done. It's is still an evil anti-handling device, although I've managed to restore four of six tilt hooks per side. I've got the AFV Club 6 Pdr to do. Worth the effort, but finicky to do. It looks much better without the tilt. #histscalemodels

Never built anything by Copper State Models before, beautifully sculpted, and needed absolutely no cleaning up or sanding, assembly very easy and accurate. Not cheap kits, but I'm very impressed. #histscalemodels

Decided to remove all the black paint. Quite a job, but I think it is worth it.
I have masked the metal parts (not in this photo) ready to prime.

Along with the varnish I bought these replacement name and number plates.
Etched metal. Good quality.

Think this is done. Now time for a good clear-up in the bloke room. #histscalemodels
