If anyone wants evidence of the unreliability of Google's "AI Overview", here it is

I used Google to try to find a story I wrote on the Southport attack for the New York Times

The AI Overview claims there are no results for the search, but the first search result is the article I was looking for

It took detailed questioning at a dedicated lobby briefing at about 4pm yesterday to find out that the Β£7bn figure was never the estimated cost of the extra Afghan arrivals, but the estimate (over-estimate as it turned out) of *all* Afghan relocations. Not ideal.

Reform council complains Labour is being TOO TOUGH on migrant workers Kent County Council leaderΒ Linden Kemkaran has written to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper about a new law cutting the number of care worker visas.

Reform's flagship council has complained that a clampdown on migrant workers is, erm, too tough. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

14 July 2025

Kent County Council’s (KCC) Leader, Linden Kemkaran, and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Diane Morton, have written to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Minister for Care Stephen Kinnock to raise β€˜grave concerns’ about 'unsustainable' proposals in the new Immigration Bill.
Coupled with recent changes to employer National Insurance contributions, plans to reduce health and social care visas to the UK, and end the Social Care Worker Visa route to overseas recruitment for new applicants from 22 July 2025, risks many care workers going home - leaving providers 'on a cliff edge'.

This feels....notable. The leader of Reform-run Kent council and its cabinet member for social care have written to the government to complain that a crackdown on car workers visas intended to reduce net immigration could have a devastating impact on some care providers.

FWIW at the moment I think as long as it is relative no-marks like Berry, Jenkyns, Jones etc they can get away with it, as Farage casts a long shadow. Truss, on the other hand, would probably be an issue.

This is likely to be *the* test for Reform, whose pitch is for people disenchanted with all the main parties. How much can they become one of those parties before the voters notice/care? Can Farage's cult of personality mitigate it?
