Vision Zero Vancouver advocate hit and injured by driver while returning from road safety meeting Longtime road safety advocate and Vision Zero Vancouver volunteer Rhiannon Fox was hit and injured by the driver of a Kia Sorento on Friday afternoon. Fox was returning from a City of Vancouver Vis…

It happens to 50,000 people in the lower mainland every year, and on Friday it happened to @rhifaux.bsky.social. Was it an accident? We think this was the predictable result of government inaction.

Wide protected bike-lane in Downtown Vancouver filled with people on bikes.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

More Police and Surveillance Won’t Prevent the Next School Tragedy | The Tyee Here are the changes that can make schools safer.

Research estimates that billions of dollars a year are invested in “securing” schools.

That can feel reassuring, but decades of experience following the 1999 Columbine shooting suggest expanding visible security shows limited evidence of reducing violence.

Don’t be mistaken in thinking a PhD is a silver bullet though. Lots of PhDs out there don’t measure up to test of reality.

A sunny day at English Bay along a grassy hill, crouched near yellow flowers (daffodils) which are growing in clusters along the slope. The paved Seawall path cuts across the middle of the image and also goes up and around the Inukshuk - a large statue made of stacked stones. Behind that is blue water, some cargo ships at sea, and islands and mountains in the distance

Airbnb takes residential housing for travelers out of the resident's pool of options.

For that reason hotels are a good idea. In an ideal world you would let hotels be built organically and the market would balance itself but in NA everything is blocked by confusing zoning bylaws.

It's really interesting to see the relation between hotel rooms / hotels, residential housing and airbnb.

Recently in the Okanagan, many municipalities opted in to limit or block the use of airbnb and it is now more expensive than ever to book a weekend in the region. This has hurt tourism a ton.

This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in most American cities.

The "dense zoning" is being filled with non-Canadian invaders. Thats why. Canada is for Canadians. If the invaders aren't expelled peacefully by law, expect unprecedented violence. Life in prison for the orchestrators is the kind option.

People that can’t afford housing are everywhere including in our neighbours.

A society that thinks being unused is acceptable and goes ahead and vilifies this experience has lost touch with reality.

We need humane policies. Policies that are fair and just.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

This is great but details matter. Having two progressive candidates on the ballot would not be ideal.

Also the list of candidates each party proposes for council should maximize progressive voices and not vote split.

We do want Mandani as our mayor. Vancouver is a progressive city too. OneCity and the greens cannot do what they are currently doing. I assume this post is preparation for a COPE mayoral candidate as well.

You folks need to test support but then get behind the best progressive voice.
