Midlands Writing Resources
I've created a page on my website of resources for stage and screen writers in the Midlands (UK).
Please feel free to share with anyone who might find it useful.
I'll continue to update it, so let me know if there's anything I should add.

I made this film about 'time tourists' eight years ago.
Kinda scary how it's becoming more, not less, relevant.
Happy 40th birthday EastEnders!
No other TV show has had such a profound impact on my life.
Without it, I wouldn't have the friends, the career or the self-awareness that I have now.

Little free libraries are a great way for the community to have local access to books. RA volunteer Hope gathered and delivered diverse books hoping to reach a dozen or more people in her community. Know a way to you can help your community? RA can help! randomacts.org/acts/

The #Neighbours tour was an absolute joy.

Saw 'Birdsong' at Birmingham Rep last night.
Excellent production.
But blimey it's bleak and harrowing.
Delighted that my short play 'No Place Like Home' has been selected for the Springboard Festival at the Criterion Theatre in Coventry.
The festival (10 to 17 May) is a celebration of theatre, poetry, music and art with performances, workshops, discussions and exhibitions.
Put it in your calendar!
Sad.
16.01.2025 19:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0While I await feedback from the composer on the new songs for 'Fairlight', I'm getting stuck into a spec pilot script for my TV drama series 'Bliss'.
Feeling slightly daunted, but also excited.
This is the fun bit. :)

Another fun day of workshops, this time at Sandwell College.
A big shout out to my workshopping buddy, Faye, who is not only an actor and producer, but also a delight to work with.

Last night I had a lovely evening at the Criterion Theatre in Coventry, enjoying readings of four short plays, including my own 'No Place Like Home'.
What a lovely bunch of people.
Keeping my fingers crossed I make the final selection for this year's Springboard festival in May.
Had a lovely morning giving a workshop to 13/14 year olds at a school in Shrewsbury.
I'm always amazed by their creativity and imagination - I want to steal ALL their stories!
'A Real Pain' is a brilliant film.
Thought provoking and moving, and manages to be both beautifully simple as well as deep and complex.
I was very affected by it. I'm going to be sitting with it for quite a while.
Highly recommended - but take tissues.
Enjoyed a couple of hours in the Birmingham Hippodrome's artists' lounge today.
It feels very right to be writing about Harry Gem with a view of the Thorp Street Drill Hall, once the home of the 1st Warwickshire Rifles, the volunteer militia that he founded.
Just finished writing Harry's funeral song.
Is it weird to be a bit sad about the death of a character who is largely a fictional creation based loosely on a man who died over 140 years ago?

Delighted to hear that my short play 'No Place Like Home' will be performed at the Criterion Theatre in Coventry at 7.30pm on Monday 13th January.
It's a free, informal reading in the theatre bar, so do come along if you're in the area.
It's SO GOOD to have #Neighbours back again.
I have missed it so much over Christmas and the new year.
Enjoyed an afternoon out at Birmingham Rep seeing 'A Christmas Carol'.
Thought it would be weird going to a Christmas show after Christmas, but it was actually the perfect way to round off the festive season.
Verdict: Pretty standard traditional script, but good cast and lots of really fun staging.
Happy new year!
Witnessing this incredible full double rainbow on 1st January was a wonderful sign of fabulously queer (and queerly fabulous) things to come in 2025.
