I have a degree in philosophy, but worked my career as a software developer. Over the years I met so many PhD's in computer science, who could not write, give a presentation, or talk coherently about anything outside their career. We need everyone to have a basic understanding of the world.

To my mind higher ed is not just about training for a job. I think this has been a problem for decades, not just an AI problem, but AI does accelerate that problem. Higher Ed is about exposure to new ideas across the human spectrum of thought.

As someone who started writing code a LONG time ago, I can not agree more. The first time I wrote a line of code the cpu was 8 bit, memory was in 8K banks, and the code was assembler. I still find myself thinking about how to shave a byte here or a cpu cycle there. I love Swift.

Last summer was LA's hottest ever. this "rainy" season, southern california got just 2% of its normal rainfall. These devastating fires aren’t random—they’re fueled by a warming, drying atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. This is a climate emergency.

What I want to know is why Trump thinks the USA needs to "own" Greenland? What in Greenland does Trump think is of value to the USA? It seems so random.
