11.10.2025 15:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Never mind gas power: between Tice and Farage, that's a lot of hot air that can be used to power steam turbines. Throw in Piers Morgan, 30p Lee and Corbyn's batshit brother, and you could keep the whole of Birmingham powered on for a year ๐
11.10.2025 14:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0ELECTION DAY -1:
"We'll reduce your council tax by cutting all that woke crap."
ELECTION DAY +1:
"Hey... where's all the woke crap we were supposed to cut?"
SIX MONTHS LATER:
"The council is now free from woke AS WE PROMISED but we're still having to raise your council tax because IMMIGRATION"
Funnily enough, that's what I'm watching now ๐ Great minds think alike!

11.10.2025 13:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Album #25 of the Downgrade Challenge and the first from today's CrazyBeat haul
Album: Brewing Up With @billybragg.bsky.social
Pressing: Go! Discs, UK 1984
Condition: Strong VG
Upgrade List: No
Notes: The 95C performs well, rendering the record's visible battle scars shallow and superficial.
I addition to the Downgrade Challenge, I also wanted to see if I was wasting money on VG+/NM records if VG was more than adequate. So I bought a box full, no one record priced above a fiver. On inspection, a good clean and all should sound perfectly fine, only with a few forgivable clicks/ticks.
10.10.2025 15:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This one insinuated that, because of a reply I made to someone they likely don't even follow, I have mental health problems.
To be fair, it was nice of them to notice - most people just assume my MH issues are all in the past - but something in their tone suggested it wasn't complimentary ๐
let me get this straight, because i am cry-laughing right now. the winner of the nobel peace prize has received the award for standing up for democracy? and she's venezuelan? i'm sure she deserves it, but epiphenominally, doesn't it seem like a point is also being made here?
10.10.2025 09:51 โ ๐ 37 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 7 ๐ 0Don't know why I don't listen to more Mogwai. I really enjoy their music every time I play them, but still I don't play their music very frequently.
Maybe, with patience, something will click. I'd been neglecting Camel for years until something on "Moonmadness" clicked.
Album #23 of the Downgrade Challenge (starting to skip a few now)
Album: The soundtrack to "Kin" by Mogwai
Pressing: Rock Action, 2018 XE
Condition: NM (bought new)
Upgrade List: No
Notes: It's Post-Rock - not Alan Parsons - so the 95C's limits probably add qualities that make it sound better.
Blocked my first two accounts on Bluesky today after a snarky quote on a repost. Just my way of saying "Nice try, but I'm not biting. Bye!"
10.10.2025 09:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Album #20 of the Downgrade Challenge
Album: "We'll Bring the House Down" by Slade
Pressing: Cheapskate/RCA, 1981 UK
Condition: Bostin' vinyl!
Upgrade List: Ay gunna bovvah
Notes: No problem for the 95C but it was never the best sounding record anyway: very loud with little in the way of bass.
That would be sooooo sweet ๐
09.10.2025 16:32 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0An upsurge in membership and a recent YouGov poll that has the Greens only *8 points* behind Labour. I wonder if any of this will be mentioned in Corbyn's livestream this evening? Nothing against him, personally or politically, but it's time for fresh blood and fresh energy.
09.10.2025 16:19 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's been a long day. I've made 5 or 6 more entries into my Downgrade Challenge but they were on in the background while I worked, wasn't paying them much attention, and now too tired to list them all.
Not even 8pm yet, and calling it a night. And to think, as kids, we yearned for later bedtimes ๐
Most thought it was Rick Wakeman - likely the only Prog KB player they know - but nobody guessed it was ol' Bony Tanks.
One suggested it might have been Keith Emerson, but (a) wrong side of the stage and (b) I have better photos of a'er Keith.
Same here. It's heavier than most Genesis albums, but that plays to Ray's strengths. I saw them on tour that year too at the NEC in Brum. Took a few photos on a disposable camera, most of them blurry. During COVID, posted a question on FB to see if anyone could identify who was in the picture.
08.10.2025 17:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The last time I tried dual-booting Windows & Linux (which was several years ago), I could at least do so by installing Win first and let Linux overwrite the bootloader with an os-probed GRUB. Has Windows gotten *that bad* that even performing an update will overwrite your bootloader?
08.10.2025 15:04 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0So what's the connection with Christmas? Surely the UK release date can't be the ONLY thing?
08.10.2025 13:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Neither the English nor German versions have lyrics even remotely festive, and they're both quite similar. I'm sure I read somewhere that, in Germany, it was a hit during the Summer. โฌ๏ธ
08.10.2025 13:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I have the UK 12" single of "Keeping the Dream Alive" by Freiheit, which has all this Xmas imagery on the cover. Even heard it in Matalan between festive Slade and Shaky hits โฌ๏ธ
08.10.2025 13:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm pretty sure I watched this one as an 8yr old. I distinctly remember the Jan Hammer performance being the first time I'd heard of him. I just loved anything that sounded different, and "Crockett's Theme" certainly did.
Who'd have thunk that TOTP would become my gateway drug to Mahavishnu? ๐
I replaced the pre-installed 512Gb Gen3 SSD in my laptop with a 4TB Gen4 NVME, and it worked fine. The generations are backwards compatible - you won't get Gen5 speeds out of it, unless supported by your m/board, but it would - at worst - work as well as your current drive as far as I know.

Others: "And what about those sent the other way for the same reason?"
Kemi: "We'd send them back too."
Others: "So you propose a kind of inter-dimensional tennis?"
Cliff Richard: "Sounds interesting. Can I watch?"
Kemi: "We plan to fire any illegal immigrants into Black Holes, where their gravitational pull is so strong, they won't be able to escape and return"
Others: "But if the theory that Black Holes are actually Wormholes is correct, won't they just land back in Britain, only in a parallel universe?"
They are kind of right though - just with a *very* differing definition of what "our tolerant society" means. To the Express, it likely means turning a blind eye to tax avoidance, deference to the Royals (even the dodgy ones), and not calling out any conflicts of interest in government contracts ๐
