This is a longer post than I'm used to making but seeing this news this morning hurt

But violence against us gets a blind eye. Of all the transbashings I've had or friends have had, I don't think a single one resulted in any consequences for the attacker. But I know multiple cases of the victim being charged/booked, still bloody.

Our deaths are ignored, our defense is a crime.

I've been jumped and beaten for being a tranny and have scars to prove it. Had people spit on me in public, threaten to shoot me, follow me home. I've known about trans women being beaten to death and stabbed in my neighborhood since even before coming out.

There was so much media coverage of this when it first happened but out of dozens of news stories, I think only 2 noted her defense that it was self defense, the rest just read the charges with varying degrees of transphobia

Self defense has never been legal for trans people and never will be...

Basically, it takes a lot more effort to put misinformation on Wikipedia than take it off. Our FRINGE guideline handles how we deal with pseudoscience and manufactured controversies - we frame bullshit within the actual state of the field and don't promote it
