A jetway smile, a city pigeon's crumb
A coffee creamer voice checking that I lived that day

The final chrome screw twisted The switch flipped, the lights blinking Fans whirring in the glass-paneled cranium The robot girl wakes, beholds the skies Apocalyptic fire streaks across, bullets rain She stares at her palms, seeking a gun, asks "What is my purpose?" Her keepers clad in helmets and boots, and Layers upon layers of reinforced armor Blink as they think how to phrase it The girl continues, "You want me to fight, right?" And at that, the leader shakes his head Slings his arm round her metallic shoulders And brings her inside a two-story house "No." He explains, "We want you to live Because we forgot how to."
