Any chance you would link to some of the discussion? I’m very interested in this topic!

This string of thought spurred by having bought a fitness watch last week and being fairly sure I’m gonna return it because of the mechanized/neurotic way it causes me to relate to my physical activity. Not saying it’s wrong for everybody, but it’s not necessarily the kind of life I want for myself.

Probably not wrong to try to be happy. Just might not work very well if that’s the end goal. And it’s not wrong to want to be mentally well either.

There’s a backwards/masochistic thinking that *not* trying to be happy is noble and will be compensated as such

Obviously, this rests on the assumption that aiming at happiness is the wrong angle of attack.

Does aiming at happiness work? Doesn’t seem totally wrongheaded if you still end up doing the kinds of things that either directly or indirectly lead to happiness? Not wrong to want to be happy after all

I wonder if aiming at mental health, similar to aiming at happiness, is kind of the wrong angle of attack. Maybe the best mental health is a byproduct. Potentially different ways of approaching therapy though.

My family always said it at goodbyes, even just everyday ones. I think it came from the fear that someone might die and you wouldn’t have told them you loved them. So a bit dark, a bit of a momento mori.

Yeah 😏 I’ve always been a liberal user of the L word. Girlfriends too. Would not have gone over well on the Bachelorette.

Reading Slouching towards Bethlehem and reminded how awestruck I am by the seemingly photographic
memories of therapists who write. Is consistently writing how they learn to/practice remembering so well?

(Side note: photographic memory but for hearing is called echoic memory. Thx google.)

Ooh that’s interesting. I’m a whistler and my twin is a whistling hater, and also unofficial misophoniac. Which came first I wonder…

Some people love to whistle and do it all the time. Others hate to hear people whistling. What’s going on there? Anything related to personality?

I want to read a dissertation on the psychology of the anon twitter user who posts about people who choose public nudity when privacy was also an option

I want to read a dissertation on the choice of someone showering in a gym locker room who opts not to pull the privacy curtain across their stall and is thus exposed to everyone who walks by. (Hypothetical ofc.) I won’t say β€œexposes themself.” At least not necessarily.

Sometimes a client returns to treatment after a long time away and I can’t help but be aware of the fact that I myself have changed since the last time I saw them and they me.

Drove by this beautiful little mountain yesterday (Weathertop vibes), then revisited it in the flight sim later for a fly-around. One of the cooler possibilities this day and age. Maybe one day I’ll go back in person and hike it (in a warm month).
