it is possible for a society to distribute quality education in an equitable, fair, and accessible way.

it is not possible to distribute hierarchical elite power in a similar fashion, because that's not how elite power works.

Good morning! I'm in Uganda to visit family and friends.

But depending on your perspective, don't worry or I'm sorry: I'll be back by the end of the month.

See you soon, NYC.

people come up with all kinds of fanciful math to justify billionaires' wealth but imo present political moment demonstrates conclusively that we need to tax billionaires at whatever rate will keep them focused on their own fucking business rather than our Medicaid and pediatric cancer research

Via @nytimes.com: Iโ€™m proud to team up with @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and cross-endorse each other for Mayor because of his strong commitment to a more affordable city.

Together, we'll fight for a safer, better-run New York โ€” and ensure that Andrew Cuomo makes it nowhere near City Hall.

Mamdani and Lander Will Cross-Endorse Each Other in N.Y.C. Mayorโ€™s Race

Last night, @bradlander.bsky.social and I exposed Andrew Cuomo's record of corruption, scandal and disgrace on the debate stage.

With early voting starting tomorrow, we're cross-endorsing to defeat the ex-Gov. and win a city everyone can afford. Rank Brad #2!

Facebook decided to suspend my account because of a piece (below) I wrote Monday about violence which in no way advocates for it (but does point out who is violent in the current ruckus).

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Ok - lets build a little community.

Share 1 work, new or old, across any discipline, of which you are really proud. Doesn't need to have received universal applause, it could be something overlooked, under-sung.

Share a link, and say what you're proud of about it.

Go!

All told, Biden was able to pursue another campaign out of Democratic deference, careerism, and complacency. There was no spell he cast over the party; nothing he himself did to stupefy and paralyze its leaders. Up and down the ladder, the shrewd and the merely timid, all of whom knew full well that he shouldnโ€™t run again, each took measure of the situation and figured it was safest to do nothing until doing nothing became untenableโ€”and for several weeks afterward.

Prominent Democrats speaking out about all this a year ago would have been meaningful. Today, it means nothing. Denouncing Bidenโ€™s run now โ that heโ€™s a political nonentityโ โ€”out of office and perhaps very near deathโ โ€”isnโ€™t taking a brave stand against the internal culture of the Democratic Party. Itโ€™s a reflection of it: a wholly cost-free and substantively empty way for opportunists to perform independence from the party now that the coast is clear and there are no toes of consequence to step on. Biden ran again, and is being condemned for running again, for the very same reasons.

They blame pollution but cut the EPA and clean air and water regulations. They blame poor nutrition but cut SNAP and programs to bring local produce to schools. They blame increased screen time while destroying public infrastructure that connects people. All while they take millions off healthcare.

I would guess that Zohran Mamdani cultivates alternative media because the New York Times covers him in the Styles section as a โ€œlong shotโ€ while he is running a solid second place in the polls.

Andor Is the Best Star Wars You Will Ever See The second and final season of Tony Gilroyโ€™s epic is suspenseful, action-filledโ€”and a timely, unflinching portrayal of the human costs of rebellion.
