We are looking into the open hatchback trunk of my car, which is full to bursting with potted plants. They’re mostly dwarf pines, spruces and junipers, with a few broadleaf evergreens and some ground covers.

I uh… might have gone a little crazy at the plant store. The garden demanded evergreen shrubs, and who am I to say no?

Yes! Those extra hours of light turn me into a completely different person, I swear.

My hand, holding a trio of chicken eggs. One is tan, one is peachy pink, and one is pale greenish blue. In the background, the chickens are picking through the grass contentedly.

I never realize how badly I need it to be spring until it arrives and suddenly I can feel feelings and life has meaning again.

I bet currant would thrive where cedars died, way lower water needs. If you need privacy, prickles, and evergreen leaves Tall Oregon Grape is another hardy native with spring flowers. My grandmother used to make delicious jelly from the berries too

Yes! Mine thrive in tough conditions and fill up with hummingbirds, bees, and native caterpillars. And very deer resistant once they’re big enough to survive the occasional taste test. I’m starting to have pretty good luck propagating them from cuttings too. Infinite pink shrubs!

Well this is fun - this time last year a deer broke the main stem of my red flowering currant (split vertically and severed horizontally on one side). I wrapped it with a bandaid for lack of better options. It’s fully healed and about to bloom for the first time! #gardening #nativeplants

It definitely balances out all the screeching, and makes me think things will keep improving!

Yes! No amount of knowing how germination happens detracts from the magic of the fact that it happens at all. It’s just so cool.

We’re looking at tiny flower seedlings close up under grow lights. The soil is in bright orange, blue, green, and purple starter cells. So far we’ve got sweet peas, cerinthe, wallflowers, pale evening primrose, lemongrass, echinacea, and agastache. They’re tiny and full of potential!

There are few things more satisfying than checking in on these babies and finding more new seedlings popping up every few hours 🌱 #seedstarting #seeds #gardening #flowers

Have been playing the violin 🎻daily for one month and am pleased to report that sometimes music comes out of it! Not **good** music mind you, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

While I will never be a Musical Theatre Gayℒ️ I gotta say I'm delighted that maybe my kid is. The world needs more drama and sparkles and musical numbers and low budget student theatre.

We're sitting in the audience in a small theatre, pre-show, looking at the stage. The lights are dim and the stage is lit with blue spotlights and string lights. The set is simple, a platform and a movable wall of mirrors, with a lighted carnival sign reading "Ride The Cyclone" suspended above. The smoke machine is just getting started, and the sold out seats are starting to fill up.

My kid is obsessed with Ride the Cyclone, and has big musical theatre dreams because of it. I looked for shows, assuming at best we'd have to travel and it'd be a year out. Nope, found a local-ish show the same week at the Canadian college of performing arts, and their students fucking nailed it.

Although we're celebrating Canada's flag tomorrow, I think we need to reflect on the Indigenous and how they stood by their land and we the colonialists. Here are their flags. Thanks so much to @cdnhistoryehx.bsky.social for sharing these a few years back on this site.

In the immortal words of Shania Twain, let's go girls! 🌱🌱🌱 Let the seed starting commence. Onions, leeks, shallots, celery, and some slow growing flowers and grasses today.

Not a big fan of snow, but I gotta say, as a person living directly alongside the highway, the silence is worth the cold feet. Thanks for staying home today drivers!

Duncan farmers and market call on province to continue funding food security program Losing the food security program could take money away from communities and farmers, according to Duncan Farmers’ Market executive director.

The @duncanfarmers.bsky.social and other markets around B.C. are fighting to keep a program alive that helps feed lower income families, seniors and pregnant people struggling with the rising cost of living and food insecurity.
