We underestimate children’s abilities to bike their own bike for transportation because our infrastructure doesn’t work for children. My daughter can easily bike over 5 miles, which is around the distance of many errands, but my fear of her safety holds us back from taking those trips.

Our new analysis @urbaninstitute.bsky.social shows this approach would produce a massive redistribution of transportation funding to rich, car-dependent, high white population areas.

Each day, hearing news of a different gov website that’s completely disappeared has been so disheartening. Yesterday, it was the EPA’s EJScreen tool, and today this. I’m sad for the staff who worked so hard to create these resources and sad for the US that we’re moving backwards so rapidly.

This is the program that helps people not get run over and killed by a car, which kills 40,000 Americans each year.

US DOT has renamed the competitive RAISE program back to BUILD & changed merit criteria for winning projects to:
—Eliminate goal of increasing walking, biking for public health
—Eliminate goal of engaging with unions
—Eliminate goal of electrification
