Things eventually lead to him still chartering Han Solo (who starts wearing a red helmet or 'hood') and Chewbacca (a real 'ace') for a flight to rescue Leia, where they have their first encounters with Tarkin (who likes to talk in riddles) and Darth Vader (whose life support suit is much... colder).

So, when Owen and Beru are killed by the Empire, Luke instead sets out on his own on a quest of revenge, taking up a sand bat-themed cloak Beru had made him when he was younger that becomes the basis for his first batsuit, and some gadgets (this Luke inherited his father's tinkering hobby, I guess).

Obi-Wan loses his final duel against Maul from Rebels, but news of his death naturally doesn't spread outside of the local community, so the opening of A New Hope plays out the same, except no "Ben" to introduce Luke to the concept of Jedi.

While I was trying to fall asleep last night, I ended up brainstorming a Star Wars crossover fanfic that I'll probably never get around to writing, where Luke ends up becoming Batman. I call it The Dark Knight of Tatooine.
