That’s a little unfair. Most of those who signed up can’t just leave. It’s a better strategy to sympathize with these well-meaning people who are caught in serving out their promised term. Treat them all as neighbors; it won’t hurt and it might help.

There is an actual plan for flood control tunnels done by actual engineers. Houston could do that.
It could also buy out vulnerable areas and enlarge existing reservoirs. Houston has already raised bridges over bayous that caused flooding in the past by blocking debris.

Just FYI, I’m not making any judgment, but you might want to review Charity Navigator’s 2024 Form 990:

These are 527’s, most charities are 501(c)3 orgs. You can use websites that “grade” these or you can look them up on the IRS website and review their Form 990’s that show where the money goes. A charity should post its 990 on its website. I always read 990’s before giving.
