19.02.2025 05:47 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโve also been lucky enough to pick up a few gongs, and to be on the spot for some of the biggest news events of the last decade. Again, Iโm not quite sure of my next steps, but feel free to reach out in my private messages. My mobile number will stay the same :)
18.02.2025 23:27 โ ๐ 24 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 13 ๐ 0I leave on good terms and will very much miss my Herald colleagues, whoโve been there for my family through some bloody tough times. The job has taken me around the world, to climate summits, disaster zones, from the Australian outback to Antarcticaโs Dry Valleys. It's been a privilege. 3/
18.02.2025 23:27 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Itโs a little bit of a leap into the unknown, but itโs my hope to continue writing or working in the science, environment and climate spaces. Itโs also time for a change for me: next month marks 20 years with the company and up Iโm for a fresh chapter and challenge. 2/

Life update (yes, sorry, one of those). Amid the latest restructure at the Herald, Iโve opted to take voluntary redundancy (as first reported today by our own Media Insider!). I finish up on April 1 and have a lot of work to get through before then. 1/
Congrats on the AAAS science prize too btw Kate (this is also my first post on here in months)

20.12.2023 04:00 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hey there Sam. No unfortunately, but you can find the piece in todayโs print edition. Much as Iโd like more people to be able read it, I guess paywall revenue helps keep me in a job

17.12.2023 20:08 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Normally it would be exciting to be front page news but it's a pretty mixed feeling with today's story by Jamie Morton in the Herald. I was amongst a group of scientists who spoke to Jamie about the challenges facing the NZ science system. In short, we cannot go on like this

17.12.2023 06:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโd been working on this deep dive about whatโs wrong with our science system for months before Massey moved to cut more than 60 roles last week. Whatever the new Govt decides to do, scientists have told me one thing: the sector canโt carry on like this. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/how-unive...
