I think overpaying for non-stars is often frustrating and not without pitfalls. but if you look at Knicks with Bridges and OG, I think when you bring in those types of players you build a team that is versatile and less attention needs to be paid to who can cover for who's short comings.

It looks like the team's rebounding suffers ever so slightly when he's on the court, which is obviously contextual. This might be unfair to Oubre who I do like rooting for, but I think the difference between a player of his ability and that of Jones is night and day as far as it impacts winning.

I have been asking the Sixers to β€œoverpayβ€œ for Herb for three years. and I stand by this.

Looking back if they could have traded McCain for Keon Ellis that would have been an understandable move that might be liner but getting back a player who fits better the other two small guards. I don’t know how the money could have worked.

I don’t particularly buy it either, but I am open to the idea that they tried it to an extent. I think the actual useful players were seen as too expensive (possibly rightly) and they didn’t want to trade for someone else. Thats just why trading McCain was a bad move especially without foresight.

That's fair. He was behind the times on that front. I think he's trying to catch up, but he thought that older established players on their decline could hang with younger role players and it's just not true anymore. The difference in athleticism is bigger than it ever was.

But Melton shouldn't catch strays he was excellent and if he was healthy, they probably win the Knicks series.

I still can't wrap my head around McCain trade because trading someone who's ceiling could completely change the team's prospects possibly this year and likely going forward and at his lowest value doesn't seem like a Morey move.

If they are in the same division it’s division record.

It seems incredibly stupid to trade a very talented young player while they are playing their way back from a knee surgery.

He had a significant higher tov% than harden or Luka at more than 18%. Not ideal for a back up role player

PG did this so they don’t have to dump KO and Drummond. McCain and VJ get more offensive touches and he’s fresh for the playoffs. very heady, good teammate.

its an intriguing and fun style but I don’t see it being at a contender level. Score first small guards as your best player isn’t the way to a championship. Partly because Maxey’s skill set is the most easy to find in the league. which isn’t to say he’s not a cut or 2 above because he is.

so there is a discounting of the future but also not living in the past. I think McCain will be fine if he stays healthy wouldn't panic unless he's at same place in one year.

30.01.2026 21:06 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I am not optimistic either due to height, and play making but Maxey just turned 25. I think he could easily have 7 more great years. he's a better shooter than most small guards who flame out. I think Sixers fans already think we are post Embiid. When at the moment he's a top guy in the league.

30.01.2026 21:05 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The big contracts will hurt. But they will have many chances to get the Barlow, Bona, Edwards, Broome type players. They were all undrafted or late picks. The post Embiid Sixers are going to be in a difficult spot mostly because the extent Embiid has ,and is continuing to carry them.

I find the Thompson twins, Holiday level of star more enduring to root for. Also, it took Butler (a common comp) a few years to develop into an offensive weapon. VJ shooting is better than expected. I think IQ alone with go along way with getting better at pick n rolls. Handle, we will see.

29.01.2026 19:21 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

My primary reason to not trade him is that he's our guy and he's got a great attitude, story, and skillset (I would be a bad GM).

Jo needs a fellow French speaker. i’ve alway really liked Boucher though I think it’s clear at this point that he’s not very good.

28.01.2026 22:25 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

it's a long season and it feels like they haven't hit their stride. Problem is they might not all do it at once with so many moving parts& health concerns. McCain coming alive would do wonders, but if that comes at the expense of Grimes it might not raise the ceiling.

28.01.2026 18:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think the hard part is when PG plays like he did last night it looks better than when another role player makes a bunch of shots because he has so much skill. But the reality is that he might not be any more likely for those types of games than an average role player(still constantly great on D).

28.01.2026 18:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I love rooting for KO and want him to succeed, and he's largely been good! But he's not a good fit on the starting lineup.

28.01.2026 18:14 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

They are 5.4 with all three of them on the court together over 697 possessions. if that number was higher, I could see the logic of making a big move to reinforce other lineups. I think they should invest by playing McCain and Watford more.

28.01.2026 18:12 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

With the sixers offense at full power PG should be shooting 10 plus 3’s a game and with the right actions a lot of them should be open.

28.01.2026 13:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Still optimistic but also:

Sixers have 2/5 of active players from the Bahamas. In the last two years they have had 4/5. If things go south, they could easily re-acquire Kai Jones, and Buddy Hield. Trade Jo for Ayton. Move to Camden go all in with a new theme. Call it the Caribbean of New Jersey.

27.01.2026 14:44 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I know they have struggled but Sixers will need Watford and McCain to beat teams without Jo and PG. Watford was playing really well before the injury the slow roll back doesn't make sense to me.

The international make up of the NBA already leads to relevant questions on the issue of ICE. But now with current and former stars speaking up, games being postponed there’s really no more excuses not at the very least ask questions.

Well beyond the point where everyone with a platform should be forced to take a side on what’s happening in America.

Journalists should not only be making personal statements but asking questions of their subjects as well.
