Tomino: i do get what you mean, and i don’t mean to play devil’s advocate for Miyazaki, but... generally speaking, that’s just how you get when you age. It’s the same for me, surely. all the best windows software in history is called something like "joe's thing doer". it does the thing and nothing else and is available on a html website in plain text and takes up under a megabyte of space and uses default windows ui elements and will work until the heat death of the universe

...I literally work in preschool television, so maybe I'm not an unbiased source here, lol. But I do think any kind of literacy and engagement in the arts is better than none, so I'll all for adults intellectually engaging at that level if that's where they're at, for reasons of disability or w/e

I dunno, I don't think anything has "gone wrong" with people who enjoy children's literature over adult's literature for pleasure. It's only "gone wrong" if they can't engage in higher literature at all, through lack of literacy or attention span or whatever reason.
