Who wants to do it?
Having to fire people because of lack of funding after several years of development feels like there's something wrong in way we are making games now.
I'd love to see these smaller studios take risks in putting bolder games out faster.
I wonder what makes a successful branch out: Embark and Neon White obviously did some right.
All these companies where founded by super talented and successful people that managed to attract talent and funding.
I live in Stockholm and I have been following very closely the explosion of the smaller studios branching out from Dice, Avalanche, Machine Games...
Now Cult of the North is closing down after reaching pre-alpha, Fall Damage crashed, Liquid Swords (my previous employer) downsized dramatically.

Comparing a build from then and now it feels I barely made any progress.
The concept hasnโt changed much, I can still picture it and play it perfectly in my head, but slow progress is really tough.
I wouldnโt recommend moving in just yet, the neighbourhood is pretty empty

Learning how to work materials in Blender and have that transferred correctly to a UE material was also a challenge.
I needed a win this week, so I bridged what I considered the biggest gap toward my game and imported some modular pieces and started to build in Unreal.

Bugs and asserts are piling up as I'm moving forward with features though, I need to address the ghost's rotation and aiming to make sure it works as intended.
