The Quiet Demise of Jordan’s Political Space | Journal of Democracy In the shadow of Gaza’s destruction, the Jordanian regime has quietly repressed one of the main sources of the country’s political activism.

In doing so, I argue for a reconceptualisation of how Palestinian youth understand and enact resistance, one that foregrounds the local contingencies shaping individual actors.

Focusing on Palestinian rap music, I analyse how two key masculine identities, the Dod (a transgressive counter-cultural figure) and the Gada' (a brave man), have fostered new forms of political belonging among disaffected Palestinian youth between 2018-2021.
