Opinion | Trump Is Not Afraid of Civil War. Neither Is Stephen Miller.

Nothing revelatory here, just disturbed to see it all laid out and had to share.

Increasingly clear they are both giddy and psychologically unprepared for war and that any conflict we enter will escalate rapidly to large-scale war crimes

Infuriating how many imaginary harms have sculpted the electorateโ€™s fears and behaviors over the last couple decades when this shit seems endemic to evangelical and conservative power networks

Court-watchers confirm this cruel ICE agent has been reinstated.

Last week, in the briefest moment of decency, violently throwing a woman to the floor was โ€œbeneath the men and women of ICE.โ€

This week, itโ€™s back to business as usual. The cruelty, after all, is the point.

Early last semester, Droubi said, students began approaching Cheyfitz with complaints that a graduate student in the โ€œGaza, Indigeneity, Resistanceโ€ class appeared to be recording them, possibly to โ€œgather their names and commentsโ€ and intimidate them. โ€œWe believe that a student came to the course for the sole reason of surveilling and potentially harming students in the class,โ€ Droubi said. โ€œThat ended up proving itself to be true because multiple students came forward and shared their concerns with Professor Cheyfitz.โ€ Cheyfitz said one Palestinian student quit the class after telling him she felt upset and frightened.

According to Cheyfitz, the graduate student often steered conversations away from the assigned readingsโ€”which at that point mostly focused on definitions of genocide and international law on Indigenous rightsโ€”to defend Israelโ€™s conduct in the war in Gaza and argue with others in the class. โ€œHe clearly had not done the readings,โ€ Cheyfitz said. โ€œIt was disruptive.โ€

Cheyfitz said he met with the graduate student in late January and spoke to him about concerns from his classmates. During the conversation, he asked the graduate student to drop the course, and by the next class, he did, Cheyfitz said. The graduate student, Oren Renard, a PhD candidate in computer science whose identity was confirmed by other students in the class, previously served in Israelโ€™s elite military surveillance agency, Unit 8200, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Cornell is cancelling a distinguished professor's classes on Gaza and suspending him because of the complaints of a student who previously served in Israel's military surveillance agency and was literally recording the comments of other students in class and deliberately derailing discussion.

The (self-) Gleichschaltung of American society is accelerating.

This is how 21st-century authoritarianism operates, spreads, consolidates power.

Writing feels irrelevant but also all this relentless evil is making its way into my fantasy novel. The broad canvas of fantasy feels right for discussing abuse of power and naked greed and the misguided or cynical reasons it is abetted.

I understand that ENG 360 is Children's Literature, and that's what has been reported, but she's not in the Course Schedule for 360. Instead, look at ENG 394, which does show as her course. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But that's what my search pulled up.

You can still find her syllabus, with a detailed course description, that falls within the range of the general description given in the Catalog.

"COURSE DESCRIPTION Did you read what we now call โ€œyoung adult literatureโ€ as a young adult? What exactly is a young adult? Does the term refer to an age category or a marketing tool, a personality type or a genre? What differentiates adult from young adult from teenager from child? How do we understand the genre of literature for and about this blurry, shifting group? In this course, we will explore a range of young adult or YA literature in English, including poetry, contemporary fiction, graphic memoirs, historical fiction, and fantasy, from a diverse group of authors with many varied perspectives on race, gender, sexuality, disability and other realms of human difference. Our task is to think critically about what these books can tell us about how we (and others) understand adolescence, how those definitions have changed over time, and how these books participate in larger movements of history, culture, and literature."

I agree but this case is even worse: it appears that the detailed course description* explicitly mentions that it will explore how gender and sexuality are depicted in YA literature.

*As the reddit poster mentions, there's some confusion and possible misreporting of which course she's teaching.
