Lol I am seriously so cranky about every app trying to convince us we can't function without their trash AI assistants. & making it unintuitive to turn them off/opt out of having our data used to train more AI.

one of the common threads you will frequently find among devoted adult readers & writers is that as kids the librarian let them get away with reading whatever the fuck they wanted. so much of the scifi and fantasy I fell in love with as a kid was very much Not For Kids, but it made my brain light up

Lessons in Magic and Disaster Check out Lessons in Magic and Disaster -
In the vein of Alice Hoffman and Charlie Jane Anders's own All the Birds in the Sky comes a novel full of love, disaster, and magic.

...

Hey, LESSONS IN MAGIC AND DISASTER by @charliejane.bsky.social is available! It's a dazzlingly layered story that's part queer family portrait, part exploration of modern-day witchcraft, and part literary criticism. You will love it if you love any of those things!

Is it the end for male novelists? The lonely life of a man writing fiction in 2025 A long-overdue shift to female perspectives means male authors are being sidelined, or so says the founder of Conduit Books, a new publishing house that trades only in novels written by men. Nick Duer...

Every time I read an article like this, I think, if male novelists are so endangered, how do I know so fucking many of them? Apparently the answer is, because we're all in "genre," which is the One Simple Trick for still getting published when you're a dude.
