Is some reporter eventually gonna ask him about the fact that his entire campaign, literally every word of it, was little more than looking the country in the eye and lying to it.

Three Ways of Looking at Black–White Mortality Differences in the United States | Annual Reviews Everyone agrees that US Black deaths happen earlier than white deaths on average, but it is surprisingly challenging to find the best ways to summarize, quantify, and compare this gap. This review arg...

The biggest project I've worked on for the last chunk of years was just published. It asks, how big are US Black-white lifespan differences?

This might seem like a narrow question. I hope to convince you by the end that there are answers you didn't anticipate. And I hope some of them will move you.

So much political discourse right now in the US is boiling down to "I didn't believe the bleeding person who told me the wolf at the door was dangerous to me. Because I thought the wolves only hunted them." And I don't know what people think can happen as long as that is still the conversation.

Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

DOGE is driving Social Security cuts and will make mistakes, acting head says privately The Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner said members of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team are outsiders who are unfamiliar with the nuances of the agency’s programs.

What does it mean for DOGE to "make mistakes" with seniors' Social Security?

Long wait times, underpayments, or no payments at all.

The richest man in the world is sticking his fingers in the benefits our seniors have paid for their entire working lives.

Susie Wiles, the White House chief of staff, answered questions about a number of topics at a closed-door lunch meeting with GOP senators — including about Elon Musk and his role in the administration, an issue that has caused GOP angst on Capitol Hill.

According to Sen. Josh Hawley, Wiles laid out the "nuts and bolts" of Musk's job and said that he reports directly to Trump — not Cabinet secretaries.

"Musk is working directly with the president, and the president then works with the Cabinet secretaries," Hawley said, recounting how Wiles described the workflow.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville said Wiles explained Musk's "procedure, what they do and how they do it...how Elon runs it, how he's hired people, put them together, where they go, what they're doing next."

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

The Value of Joy By canceling Joy Reid’s cable news show, MSNBC has not only silenced a brilliant host: It’s silenced the next Black voice you haven’t yet heard.

Cancelling @joyannreid.bsky.social means the door she held open for the next generation of Black voices will slam shut. Without her, the next her, won't get platformed by white media. That, of course, is why white media pushed her out.

When I hear men worshipping guns and talking about how there’s nothing that will stop them from defending their family, my mind goes to Naaman in the Bible. Do you remember Naaman? He was a great military leader, and he also had leprosy.

Hundreds of FAA probationary workers fired by Trump administration, union says | CNN Politics The Trump administration has started firing hundreds of Federal Aviation Administration probationary employees who maintain critical air traffic control infrastructure, according to their union.

Less than a month since a crash that took 67 lives, Trump is firing hundreds of federal employees who inspect and maintain air traffic control communications, radio and computer systems.

This is extremely dangerous and could have deadly consequences.

So much damage is done under the cloak of “well, no one is telling me not to do it.” But right is right and wrong is wrong, and ostracizing a vulnerable minority from a safe, EQUAL existence in public life is always wrong. If you’re a Democrat, your ideals tell you that. Are you living them?

A screenshot from Twitter.

The original tweet reads: "Rapper Kenderick Lamar wore size 29 women's jeans to Super Bowl LIX." The tweet garnered over a thousand replies, most negative.

I (Derek Guy) screenshotted that tweet and wrote: "so funny to see history repeat itself. men who wear slim fit and stretch denim—both of which were once considered strictly for women—criticizing kendrick for wearing flares bc they were on the women's aisle. in ten years, you'll be in flares clutching pearls about something else"

Then another user replied to my tweet, saying: "Wearing women’s clothes has never been in style, homo."

Not true. I'll give you some examples of when styles crossed over from womenswear to menswear, and how men have worn straight-up womenswear or just feminine styles in cool ways. 🧵

This is a thread about book banning. Right now, today, books are being pulled from shelves in libraries and classrooms, some by direct order, some in fear of what's coming. This is *exactly* what Project 2025 said was going to happen. Make no mistake: this is not about books; it's about people. 1/8
