A dream denied: My 54-year quest to publish a short story in F&SF β€Ή Scott Edelman

Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) β€” there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Alice is the gold standard of what Twitter was when it was great - how you could just find these brilliant, remarkable people with the kind of voices that rarely get platformed or taken seriously, and hear about their lives in their own words without intruding on them or demanding emotional labor

The most outlandish one I’ve tried is the Moonlander, which would be very good in certain specific use cases. However, even after a couple of months of consistent use I found the mental load of retraining myself was too high.

I have the K2 on my media PC, which I mostly use for intermittent gaming. This one has brown key switches – I had it wrong upthread – which makes it pretty loud, but it’s fine for that use. It’s built like a tank so it feels very solid but it’s also higher profile and quite heavy.

I use the K3 ultra slim v2 for work – its compact layout is better for me ergonomically because I can keep the mouse more in line with my shoulder (no numeric keypad). Also very light and easy to transport. It comes with both Windows and Mac keys that you can swap in and out.

I have two Keychrons and I really like them. (One normal profile and one slim profile.) I got the red switches which are satisfying and quieter, but not silent. I do find I need the palm rest. I like that they can be used both wired and wireless.

(I don’t know why I agreed, actually – it’s well known that I can only really handle one-and-a-half films from the del Torro oeuvre.)

On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

IT'S '6-7', COOPER. A GENERATION ALPHA TREND. WHAT THEY CALL A 'MAY-MAY'. IT'S AN ORPHANED SIGNIFIER, NO SIGNS ATTACHED. ONE COULD CALL IT DADAIST, BUT SOMME SAY IT'S TOO STUPID TO BE DADA. IT'S ANTI-MEANING, ANTI-HUMOUR, BUT DAMN IF THOSE KIDS DON'T FIND IT A CRACK-UP.
