!!! They’re gorgeous! I’ve seen that little head before in another Syon ms I think, that must be 262/1? And of course that image of Christ is spectacular and that must be another leaf of the book that has the miniature of the monks in? So much to see 😍😍

I would love this - perhaps a workshop? The Syon manuscripts at Exeter are top of my must-visit list at the moment, the finding aids are so useful!

Kathleen this is so good!!! I'm thrilled for you, congratulations! (Though I will miss our London meet-ups, any chance you'll be coming our way before your grand return?)

A pleasure to write this paper, which stemmed from the excellent panel at @newchaucersociety.bsky.social 2022 - if you like to think about why we do what we do with 'big' manuscript data, the whole collection is worth your time!

The article, for those interested in the Syon Abbesses (and who wouldn't be), is available in print and soon online, so feel free to reach out for a preprint! "Caput et domina: Abbesses and Women's Literary Leadership at Syon Abbey, 1415-1539", The Mediaeval Journal, 11:1 (2023 for 2021)

I defy you all to find a better PhD supervisor than
Laura, who celebrated the recent release of the article that nearly broke me with a bespoke mug (It’s blue for the BVM, she says πŸ’™)

What do you all make of this chronogram? We can only get it to come out to 1573, but it should be 1576 πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« (Or so says the fun acrostic date at the end)

A burnt book, lying on a foam support. The edges are black like charcoal and the leather is so burnt it is separating from the top board.

I feel like I ought to do more than just wave hi (hi!) to everyone who’s been here for ages, so instead, please enjoy the most recent photo I took of an interesting thing I found at work - one of the remaining books damaged by a 1940 incendiary bomb (it’s crispy!)
