I've finished re-reading The Ghost of Thomas Kempe by Penelope Lively

My late father did this and it utterly infuriated me even as a young kid. It's no wonder I am convinced that nothing I did was good enough for him. And even though it'll be 14 years since he died come November, I'm still not over it and I'm nearly 60.

Aw, Percy! Try not to worry - he'll be back before you know it, his usually endearingly daffy self!

Re-reading Penny Lively's The Ghost of Thomas Kempe.
(Fun fact: when I read it as a kid, lo! these many, many decades ago, was actually called The Ghost of Thomas a Kempis.)
