Journalism and teaching are some of the most valuable yet thankless jobs in our society. I want to thank everyone who wakes up in the morning excited to teach others or inform their fellow humans for terrible pay.

Yes. And teachers who are also dealing with all of the above. Although, IMHO, a curriculum shift under Common Core was good for English at HS level. But the attention deficit postCovid is REAL for teens.

Not sure I'd recommend them without a break in between...teaching high schoolers makes painfully obvious the psychic load bearing asked of a reader who goes from 1984 to Brave New World to Into the Wild. For me, compounded by realizing it was almost family history. (Autocracy-Hippy-Prepper)

Because many things are very stupid...here's a stream orchid, epipactis gigantea, from high in the Trinity Mountains, growing snuggled up to a tiny fen full of cobra lilies, darlingtonia californica. There's magic if you look (sometimes for weeks on weeks of adventuring!).
